Course Description:
This course is designed to give each student a love for the arts that is developed through the
progress made by learning how to play a musical instrument. Through learning how to work
independently and together as an ensemble, students will progress not only as musicians, but
as students and colleagues.

Content/Educational Goals
1. Develop understanding of music notation in including key signatures, time signatures,
articulations, dynamics, and phrasing.

2. Demonstrate a proficiency of skills on their instrument.

Grading Policy:
You will be graded in Band through many forms of assessment including two written music
theory quizzes, a (mock) playing exam at the midterm, a final playing quiz, class participation,
and a performance category for attending concert(s).

At the end of the marking period the total number of points are converted to a percentage and
a grade is assigned following the _____ School District grading policy (see the following).

93-100 Excellent

86-92 Above Average

77-85 Average

70-76 Passing

0-69 Failing

Classroom Procedures/Regulations
1. You are expected to be on time for class.
2. You are expected to have a pencil for class each day.
3. You will be assigned a folder with music and a method book. You are expected to
bring get these items out and ready for class each class period, and return them
at the end of the class period as other classes will be using them.
4. For items belonging to the school district, in the case of damage to or loss of the
property of _____ school district, the student will be required to reimburse the
_______ School District the replacement cost. In such cases, a fine slip will be
filed in the main office and the student will not graduate until it is rectified.
5. Due to the fact that Band class is taught in an ensemble setting, students must
be respectful to the instructor and other students by not playing or talking when
asked due to instruction, demonstration, or other designated times.
6. Any student who refuses to follow the rules of the _____, damages any music
department instrument or book, or disrupts the class setting will be reported to
the appropriate Assistant Principal. This offense could result in termination of
that student from the guitar class.
7. You must join the class in google classroom. You should have already received an
invite from me for the class. All assignments, materials, and announcements will
be posted in google classroom.
Philosophy
Band Class and any class involving the fine arts should serve its students for not only its lifelong
musical and technical skills, but should also promote a love for the fine arts that will span over
the student’s whole life.
