Member/Parent Handbook

Mission Statement:
Cultivating a sense of community, responsibility, and passion
through the art of music.
Expectations Inside and Outside of the Classroom:

Music – Students are expected to share in the discovery of new

literature, terms, and expression. Each student should learn the core
principles of their technique and musicality but are also responsible for
bringing their unique expression to share with their cohort.

Performance and Practice – Students are expected to devote adequate

time to their development as musicians and students. Students should
come prepared, with the intent to work as an ensemble and individual to
achieve success. While perfection is an unattainable goal, we must give
our best in both practice and performance to display the potential of our
ensemble and individuals.

Communication – Students are expected to communicate all concerns or

areas of importance with the director. Using proper forms of
communication and proper procedures ensures that the director and
administration can offer the best service to the students and their
concerns.

Attendance – Students are expected to regularly attend all rehearsals and

events. All exceptions must be communicated and cleared by the
director. Consequences for unexcused absences are up to the director’s
discretion.

Procedure – Students are expected to follow all procedures outlined in

students should come prepared for all rehearsals and events.

If performing a solo or auditioning for an honors orchestra, the

program will cover the entry fee, but the student is responsible for
preparing for and attending the entirety of the event. The student is
representing our program and school, thus should behave
accordingly.
Parent Involvement:
Parents are strongly encouraged to participate in the students journey as
a musician and student. Attending concerts and activities is an excellent
way to support the program, school, and your students. Preparing the
students with the right equipment is always a great step as well, if
interested, send the director an email so they can provide a list of
instrument-based items that would aid in your students success. If you
are willing to provide additional help and support to the program, please
reach out to the directors or administration and let us know how you
would like to help.
