ADA 3MY: Grade 11 Enriched Dramatic Arts

This course builds upon the skills introduced and explored in the Grades 9 and 10 Enriched Dramatic Arts
courses. Students will prepare and perform both original works and selected scripts. A significant portion of the
course explores theatre conventions and students are introduced to the works of selected major playwrights
from the turn of the 20th century. Script analysis prepares students for dramatic presentations, and exploration
of the many roles in theatre production introduces students to the professions associated with theatre. Building
upon cooperative skills and creative collaboration, students work within the culture of ensemble and
experience the creative dynamics of a theatre company.
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:
Recipe for Success:
1. Obey the principle of mutual respect. Everyone deserves to have their thoughts and questions heard and respected.
If you want others to listen to you, listen to them. To get respect you must also give it.
2. Be in class every day, on time, and ready to participate in the days activities.
3. Complete assigned work on time including homework and assignments!
4. Keep your notebook up to date and bring all required materials to class each day.
5. Work hard and do your best each and every day!

Assignments:
Since the marks assigned in this course are assessed on a cumulative basis, it is imperative that work be completed as well
as submitted/performed on time.
The greatest reason for course failure and students not achieving to their full potential is the inability for students to
submit work in a timely fashion. Teachers and employers expect results and punctuality in order to achieve success.
Failure to submit the assignment before it has been returned to your classmates will result in an intervention log being
completed by the student and the assigning of an alternate assignment for completion. Students who do not submit work
in a timely manner should expect to have this reflected in the Learning Skills and comments sections of the report card.
Due to the amount of collective creation in a Dramatic Arts class, it is imperative that your work is completed within the
allocated timelines. This is critical for your individual and group success as is your attendance.

Plagiarism:
Do not copy other peoples work. Plagiarism is stealing someones material and ideas without giving them credit, and
trying to pass off their work as your own. Its wrong. Students who commit an academic offence will face one or more
of the following consequences:
Redoing part or all of the assessment under direct supervision, or completing an alternate assignment.
Limited access to academic recognition, school awards and scholarships.
Additional consequences related to the students behaviour, including community service hours, detentions and/or
suspensions.

Learning Skills:
Learning Skills contribute to effective learning and they will be part of the report card. The skills are as follows:
Responsibility, Organization, Independent Work, Collaboration, Initiative, and Self-Regulation. The
evaluation of these skills, apart from any that may be included as part of the curriculum expectations of the
course, should NOT be considered in the determination of percentage grades.

Cell phones/iPods: The WRDSB has an acceptable use policy for all personal electronic devices. Due to the
nature of this course, cell phones and music players are not to be turned on during class time. There will
definitely be exceptions to this as we work on various pieces that require sound and/or music. Generally
speaking these devices should be off and away during class time. If parents need to contact a student in an
emergency, please communicate with the school through the main office.
