IRAN
A 22-year-old Iranian woman has died days after
being arrested by morality police for allegedly not
complying with strict rules on head coverings.
Eyewitnesses said Mahsa Amini was beaten while inside a
police van when she was picked up in Tehran on Tuesday.
Police have denied the allegations, saying Ms Amini had "suddenly
suffered a heart problem".
It is the latest in a series of reports of brutality against women by
authorities in Iran recently.
Ms Amini's family say that she was a healthy young woman with no
medical conditions that would explain a sudden heart problem.

New York —
Against a backdrop of increasing violent conflicts and
reversal of generational gains in women’s rights, the women,
peace and security agenda is farther from achieving its goals
than ever before, as the latest UN Secretary-General report
shows. The report points out that the sharp deterioration in
peace and security globally is causing immense suffering and
has a significant and specific impact on women and girls in
conflict-affected countries.
UKRAINE

The war has widened gender gaps in food insecurity,

malnutrition, energy poverty, and increased gender-based
violence inside Ukraine and around the world.

Developed by UN Women and the UN Global Crisis Response

Group on the War in Ukraine (GCRG), the report shows that war-
induced food price hikes and shortages have widened the global
gender gap in food insecurity, as women have even reduced
their own food intake to give it to other household members.
Spiralling energy prices have also caused families to return to
using less-clean fuels and technologies, exposing women and
girls to household air pollution, which already kills 3.2 million
people, mostly women and children, per year.

Women-headed households in Ukraine were already more food-

insecure prior to the war, with 37.5 per cent of them
experiencing moderate or severe levels of food insecurity
compared to 20.5 per cent of male-headed households. Now,
rural women in the territories occupied by the Russian military
are increasingly unable to perform agricultural work due to high
insecurity and lack of resources, yet they are rising to the
challenge to accommodate and feed internally displaced people,
multiplying their unpaid care and domestic work
responsibilities.

“I raise up my voice—not so that I can shout, but so that those

without a voice can be heard…. we cannot succeed if half of us are
held back,” said Malala Yousafzai. Despite all the transformations
made to preserve the rights of women, we are yet far behind in
achieving total freedom for women.
To begin with, a piece of news came up saying that 83 aid workers
sexually abused women and girls while tackling the Ebola outbreak
in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In addition to the report
mentioned above, A 22-year-old Iranian woman died days after
being arrested by morality police for allegedly not complying with
strict rules on head coverings. Several reports about women being
harassed have been making headlines throughout the world.
Women are gradually losing their preciousness. Society has now
started taking them for granted. Gender equality is not just about
equalising the rights of men and women, but also about making the
society realise that women are no less than men. Now, that we are
currently living in the 21st century, it is important for the pupil to
understand the role played by women in this society.
Now every problem definitely has a solution, and so are the various solutions
to this global issue. Some of the solutions are as follows:
 People should raise their voices against violence going on against
women.
 The government should take strict actions against the wrongdoers and
should provide the victims with emotional as well as financial support.
 Women from rural areas should be educated properly and should be
introduced to human rights laws.
There are several other ways to overcome the issue of sexual violence,
exploitation and discrimination. We just need to begin, with all of our
enthusiasm and energy to tackle this issue. Afterall, every action counts!

It is very truly said that education is the weapon that can transform the world. But does
everyone receive it equally, especially when seen from the ‘gender equality’ point of view?
The answer is a clear NO. It has been a long period of time since the governments of various
countries have implied special laws for the quality education of women and girls, but has
that ever made a difference?
Educating women has many benefits, far more than those obtained by educating men.
From decades of research that when girls and women are educated, we see faster
poverty reduction, better maternal health, lower child mortality, greater HIV
prevention, and reduced violence. Each additional year a girl spends in school can
also boost her earnings as an adult by a percent. As the education of women and
girls was clearly proved as a boon, the UN has organized the Transforming
Education Summit to remember that all children deserve to learn and despite great
inconsistencies made in girls’ education over the last few decades, girls from the
poorest households and in rural areas are still being left behind. According to the UN
Women’s new report, it will take at least another 54 years to reach universal primary
school completion for girls.

As per the report from 42 countries, the disparity is greater for girls, and surprisingly,
only 18 percent of girls with one or more functioning difficulties attended an early
childhood education program, compared to 28 percent of girls without.

The simplest recipe to ruin the social status of women
-Sanjeevani Joshi

Step 1- Use one ingredient as much as possible and the other as less
as possible. (Gender inequality)

Step 2-Deteriorate the condition of the weaker ingredient. (Sexual

harassment, rape, gender-based discrimination)

Step 3-presume that if you cook the weaker ingredient, the recipe
would be spoilt. (Do not let women receive education by presuming
it is of no use)

Step 4- if the weaker ingredient spreads a lot of its taste in the dish,
simply dump the dish in the dustbin. (as done by Iran; Mahsa Amini’s
death)

But yet was considered an outcast;
They called her a curse, a curse to her family,
She often thought, what could have been worse?;

She grew up in great misery;

Not because she belonged to a destitute family,
But because she was a girl;
She often thought, why did she take birth?;

She was slapped and kicked and left in pain;

And shooed away while she was menstruating,
She had no option but to cry all day long,
Though she often thought, why can’t she answer back?;
