SYMBOLISM

themes in the story and add layers of complexity to the characters and
their struggles.
Rogelio symbolizes the people who are willing to do anything for the people they love. In
modern times, these people could be our parents or OFW’s. Rogelio’s neighbors, Aling Baby
and Aling Precious symbolize the people who try to best each other with their riches. Aling
Chummy symbolizes the people who blame other people things that are not their fault. The
gossiping people of the town symbolizes most Filipinos.
In times of crisis, they usually spend more time gossiping and judging instead of really doing
something.
WHY IS IT ENTITLED KAPITAN SINO?
The novel “Kapitan Sino” is titled after the superhero identity adopted by the
protagonist, Rogelio “Roger” Manglicmot. Kapitan Sino translates to “Captain
Who” or “Captain Nobody” in English, reflecting the idea that anyone can be
a hero regardless of their social status or background.
The title reflects the novel’s focus on the individual and their ability to
effect change, even in the face of powerful forces.

for what is right, taking personal responsibility, and fighting
against injustice and corruption
