Summary
In the story, Nick Carraway is the narrator and the writer of the story "The Great Gatsby." Jay
Gatsby as the protagonist. The novel "The Great Gatsby," is about Jay Gatsby’s dreadful story, who is a
self-made millionaire. Gatsby desires to be reunited with Daisy Buchanan, whom he promised to marry
five years before the present time. Nick assisted Gatsby in his scheme to reconnect with Daisy, until the
two of them reunited. The past lovers were delighted when they got to spend time together. Tom becomes
skeptical of the situation when Daisy and Gatsby started seeing each other alone. Which prompts him to
keep an eye on Gatsby. One day, Tom and Gatsby’s conflict made Daisy confused and somewhat
devastated that made her run away. That same day, an accident happened that ruined everything. Nick
learned from Michaelis that Myrtle died in a car accident after the couple's fight about Myrtle's
mysterious lover. That led Wilson to believe that the driver of the car was Myrtle's affair. Due to Wilson’s
anger and the desire for revenge, Wilson goes to Gatsby's mansion and shoots him, before killing himself
too. Nick arrived, and he found Gatsby floating lifeless in his own pool. Nick Carraway tried to hold a
grand funeral for Gatsby, but sadly, only few people came. These include Nick, Owl Eyes, a few servants,
and Gatsby's father, Henry Gats, who is proud of his son. Nick has a gut feeling that everyone is driven by
the same ambitions and a desire to advance into a future where those dreams come true.

Body
“The Great Gatsby” is a story about how wealth influences one’s life. It proves that at the end,
even at your death, the people you fed with your money wouldn’t care about what happened to you. It all
centered on how Gatsby stood for his love using money, and on how Daisy made selfish decisions for her
own good. It is also about how hard it is to change someone's future and how impossible it is to go back
in time. The novel did well on showing the characters' motivations and personalities. It is easily figured
which characters acquire the lists of Freud's personality theory. All characters in the novel have
imperfections and different personalities. Starting with Nick Carraway, he is the main character of the
novel. He shows the personality of ego. His morals and wants or desires are balanced depending on how a
situation affects his surroundings. As for Gatsby, Daisy, Tom, and Jordan, they all show the personality of
an Id. Their actions are based on their wants, not thinking if their actions will affect other people. For
Gatsby, despite the fact that Daisy is already married, he still pursued her and did everything just to get
her, even if it means that he had to do abominable things just to become rich and be a man that Daisy
desires. Daisy Buchanan, she only has an interest in lavish life. She allowed or made Gatsby take the
blame for what happened to Myrtle. Tom Buchanan, the husband of Daisy. Tom is cheating on her wife.
He is sexist, racist, and a liar. Daisy and Tom ran away to the problem that they caused even before
Gatsby was killed. Lastly, Jordan Baker, she is a self-centered woman. She cheated on her first golf
competition.

The summarized novel, “The Great Gatsby,” consists of nine chapters, each built with a party
scene. A pessimistic examination of the American dream. It shows an accurate representation of life in
America in the 1920s. Starting from its garment and clothing, up to its visualization of before’s culture
and society, which is underpinned by a rich pattern of symbolism. The characters in “The Great Gatsby”
show intimacy and infidelity in committing a relationship to one another. Beside these, Jay Gatsby
represents people who are afraid of being ignoble, when the fact that Jay Gatsby himself became one in
the past. He flaunts his wealth while hiding his shame of being part of the lower class family. This is
because of his desire for love towards Daisy. This motivated him to be wealthy and all knowing. The
novel, "The Great Gatsby," conveyed great effectiveness on how each character portrayed different kinds
of personalities and motivations. The characters are easily understood by its actions and decisions.
