How to Record in Garage Band

1) Connect your mic, using the USB port, Bluetooth, or the headphone jack.
2) Go to your computer’s sound settings, find the INPUT and select your mic. Leave
the OUTPUT on the default setting—probably your computer’s Built-In Headphone jack.
3) Open GARAGE BAND. Create an Empty Project.
4) Add a new track with the + sign above where there’s an existing “Piano” track. Select
the microphone graphic under the AUDIO heading and find your mic under Input.
5) Start talking into the mic and make sure you have levels (the coloured bar) under
your new track. If the coloured bar is turning yellow that’s good, if it’s turning red that’s
bad. If it’s turning red, your audio input is too loud, so move the dial over the coloured
bar slightly to the left until it’s not turning red anymore.
6) Hit the red recording button on the top bar. If you see red waveforms appearing as
you speak, then you’re recording!
7) When you’re done recording, hit the stop button. Your recording waveforms should
turn blue.
8) Go to the Share tab and click Export Song to Disk. Name the file with the date and
guest name, and select the AIFF option. Make sure you check what Folder you’re saving
to so you know where to find your file. Then click Export!

from yours. Just make sure you select the correct mic.

Other Recording Options

Audacity
If you have a PC laptop and you have a program like Audacity installed or you’re willing to install
it to record and need help setting that up, let me know! The important thing is that you’re
recording from the correct mic and saving it as a .wav file, uncompressed audio. Here are a
couple of useful YouTube links:

Voice Memos on Smartphone
Otherwise, you could also record onto your phone using Voice Memos. Raising your phone up
by putting in on some books or something, as long as it’s relatively close to your mouth and not
moving that should be good. Save it in the highest quality possible, preferably a .wav or any
other Lossless format.
