Things to do before an HR interview

 Look up the company website, LinkedIn page and their glassdoor reviews.
 Understand the product/service, their target audience, the gap they are trying to fill in
the market, and the motive of starting the company in the first place. (Refer to the
Aim/goals/our motivation sections on their websites.)
 Ask yourself why you want to work for them.

What should an ideal HR introduction contain?

 An HR assesses you as a person, your expectations from your life and your professional
career, your hobbies and additional skills, and your passion to work for their company.
 You can be comfortable and honest with the HR, and establish a rapport, but keep in
mind that they are still representatives of the company, and your interview still has to
be centric to their company.
 Shouldn’t be longer than 3 minutes
 Should let the HR know that you are genuinely interested in their product/service and
wish to help them build the same. Convince them that you are not just in it for the
money and experience.
 Should give a summary of your education+ work experience+ skills and projects +
hobbies and interests + expectations from the company.
 If you are a fresher with no experience- expressing willingness to learn will increase your
chances of getting shortlisted.
An ideal introduction has 3 components:
1. Past- Things you have accomplished already
2. Present- Things and skills you are working on currently
3. Future- Where you want to see yourself in the near future (5-year plans/ aim of
career)
FORMAT OF INTRODUCTION:
1. Self- Introduction
 Name (Start with “as you already know”, if the interviewer has already called you
by your name)
 Age
 Educational Background (You can talk about your academic excellence this time!
Feel free to mention if you have topped a semester/ scored really well/ won an
academic award, etc.)- Course, institution, year of graduation, etc.
 Then, talk about your PRESENT, i.e., what you are doing currently- for example,
enrolled in a six-month coding bootcamp at AccioJob where I am working on my
technical skills and gaining mentorship to better my career prospects.
2. Recent Accomplishments
 Internships- Name of role, company and duration you worked there for. Mention
what soft skills you gained, for example- leadership, time management, multi-
tasking, etc.
 Work Experience- Name of role, company and duration you worked there for.
And, of course, soft skills gained.

3. Technical Skills
 Give a very brief run-down of your technical skills, and mention only the number
of projects you have created using this technology, giving them an idea about
the fact that you have worked hands-on with it.

4. Mention the fact that you are also looking forward to upskill in future and learn new
technologies in this domain.

5. If you have any certifications, please mention the same

6. Hobbies/interests/ extra-curricular achievements and how you plan on executing your

learnings from them in the workplace.

TIPS AND TRICKS

 Your HR Interviewer is most probably someone from a non-technical background, so

keep things as easy to understand as possible.
 Feel free to fixate on your soft skills here, and how you plan on implementing the same
in order to perform better.
 Project a feeling of passion for the company by sliding things like how you would be
suitable for the position, in the conversation.
 HRs try to build a good rapport with each candidate, so it is always a good idea to be
open and enthusiastic during the interview.
