The LGBTQ+ and the Media

The number of LGBTQ+ characters on television has increased dramatically in the pastyears.
The type of representation has also changed. TV shows or series nowadays are doing abetter
job of depicting or portraying the LGBTQ+. For instance, the common scenario on-screenbefore
is that the father would punish his son for being gay. But in most of today’s TV shows, gays and
lesbians are more open to their parents. There are lots of LGBT characters now, notably bisexual
and transgender characterswhich were nonexistent before, and are permitted to make displays
of affection more than whatwas seen in televisions once. I think it’s a sign that people are

struggled to find acceptance from his father, Martin, ever since he was still a kid. It was also him
who discouraged Marrz fromfulfilling his dream of joining the Air Force as he wanted him to
focus on making himself moreladylike just like his sister. As he set aside his far-flung ambition,
he worked as a domestic helperin Hong Kong instead in order to support himself and his family.

Marrz’s case, he wants to join the Air Force but his father didn’t let him. Acceptanceand support should
first come from the family. By setting up a support organization with fellowLGBTQ members and OFWs
in Hong Kong, Marrz gained not only the recognition and respectfrom his peers, but the acceptance of
his father, who had since realized Marrz’s worth, straight ornot, in attaining change in society.3. How
