Short Shots

Exercise 2: Detect short shots and make repairs using


Short Shots the part provided.
Units: Metric - SI

Procedure Follow the procedure below.


1 Open a part file.
Open Short Shots.
2 New study.
Create a New Study named Short Shot.
Specify Shell elements.
3 Basic settings.
Add these steps in the order shown.

Material PS, (P) Asahi Chemical, Asahi-PS 404

I Filling Time: 0.40 seconds


Fill Properties
I Injection Pressure Limit: 100 MPa

Injection Location

Specify the Curvature-based mesh with all

other default settings.

4 Fill analysis.
Run a Fill analysis.

5 Short shot.
Show the Fill Time result plot.

It is clear that the cavity does not fill properly.


Click OK.
6 Error message.
Click Fill Text and search the document for the following error
message:
A Short-Shot has occurred during the Flow Process.
Close the html document.
7 New Configuration.
Switch over to the
ConfigurationManager.
Right-click Short Shots
and click Add
Configuration.
Name the new
configuration Thicker
Wall.
Click OK.

8 Edit shell feature.


Browse to the Shel1 feature
and edit it.
Specify This Configuration
under the Thickness feature.
Specify a Thickness of
1.25mm.
Click OK.

9 New Study.
Follow steps 2 through 4 to setup and run a new study named, Thick
Analysis.
10 Fill Time.
Note the Fill Time.
A short shot does not occur.

11 Adviser.
The Ease of Fill should show mostly green but the Results Adviser
may show yellow, indicating high pressure.
12 Save and close the file.
