Whorf argued that Eskimos had more words for snow because they carved up the concept “snow”
into multiple, distinct sub-concepts, assigning a different word to each different sub-concept. They
would do this for the same reason that, if you have more than one child, you give them each a different
name.

According to linguistic determinism, the language we use influences our perception of the world and
the way we understand and interpret it.
