“Blake Fuller” writing assignment

The name Blake originated from Britain and means bright and shining. Personally, the

name's meaning represents me, because I would consider myself a nice and accepting person

which can be implied by bright and shining. My parents knew they wanted a less common, and

more unique name. Both my parents are English, Scottish, and Irish so they began their search

there. The name Blake has roots in each of those countries, and they felt good about the name so

naturally they decided it would be a good fit. Since I can remember I have been immensely

proud of my first name, even though I did not know what it meant till now.

Furthermore, the middle name Caleb descended from Hebrewism, and means faithful,

whole-hearted, bold, and brave. Another believed meaning of Caleb is devotion to God since the

name was brought into popular culture through the bible. The name Caleb gets its meaning from

a companion of Joshua and Moses. Caleb was one of the only two Israelites to leave Egypt and

lived to make it into Canaan. Later in England during the 16th century after the protestant

reformation which was a movement aimed to reform the Catholic church many people named

their baby's Caleb in his honor. Both my parents are roman Catholic and wanted a Catholic saint

for my middle name. During the researching process they came across Saint Caleb, they liked his

story and felt it had a good ring to it. Eventually they concluded it would be my middle name.

Overall, I love my middle name and feel it describes me very well.

The last name Fuller comes from my dad's side and is derived from England, Ireland, and

Scotland. The name was formed by the Anglo-Saxon society of old Britain, which was a cultural

group made up of Germanic people. This group was also responsible for most of the modern

English language and the legal system. Additionally, during medieval times someone who

washed yardage, by thickening the cloth and beating raw cloth when wet was known as a Fuller.

This sparked an uprise of the last name Fuller, and it was a main factor in developing a variety of

unique and interesting last names based off of jobs.

Writing and learning about my name has given me an interesting new perspective of

viewing the many various beginnings of names. To conclude, I enjoy being called by name, and

proud to represent such a diverse and unique name.
