STEP Entrepreneurship Training @ Leona Farm School

. The training was conducted Last August 6-8, 2022, at Leona Farm School, Purok 7
Sto. Niño, Carmen, Davao del Norte. With 25 STEP scholars in Swine production NCII. the
training was properly started with a popular praise song followed by the dance energizer
which everyone enjoyed dancing. Participants were given a matrix of activities emphasizing
the expected output that should submit at the end of the training. Specifically, develop a
simple business plan which they can learn in a training on business planning.
After the recognition of the participants, we give them the objective of the training. On
the first day, the participants were divided into four (5 groups for the activities task, & output)
Upon the instruction of the trainer together with Mrs. Gina May Calimbas, the
participant was asked to introduce themselves and share their expectations. Each one
should stand up, say his /her name and he/she is from. They should also briefly relate their
experience in business if any. They were also asked to state all their expectations vis-a-vis
the training- towards themselves, their fellow participants including the venue, and the
trainer.
On the second activity during the morning session, I give them activities that could be
considered as motivation to start the topic. Where I let them guess the picture into a word.
Who got the correct answer will receive a reward for them to be attentive in the training. The
1st topic was introduced with the following main questions that the participants will answer
themselves during the training
After such a question was introduced, the participants were given a Personal
assessment Exercise form for them to answer. The assessment is not a test or exam this is
something that helps them know themselves better. They are given only 30 minutes to 1
hour to complete the worksheet. When the majority have finished the exercise, the trainer
flashes the Score guide slide onto the screen and asks them to check and write down their
score per topic on the last page of the personal Assessment form while checking their output
it was so lively especially when they get a high score, and very quiet if they get a low score.
Each topic corresponds to the personal characteristics of a successful entrepreneur to run
their business. If the participant gets 8 or higher in a topic, it is a strength, if they get 6 or
lower, it is a weakness. However, if they get less than 70 on their total score, they will need a
lot of strengthening before they go into business. If they get above 70, they are ready to go
into business while still strengthening their weak areas. Moreover, the participants are now
regrouped and requested to summarize & identify their weaknesses and do Activity 2 –
Strengthening Myself. How they intended to overcome the weaknesses.
In the afternoon, the lecture on defining what a business idea is all about and how to
look for business ideas continued. Participants assessed their own abilities, skills,
experience, interests, and hobbies but of course network of contacts will be very helpful in
business. Each Lecture or topic given has corresponding activities to which participants
enthusiastically comply.
At the same day the following topic is also discussed:
 Brainstorming

There is one activity under that topic that catches the attention of the participants and
made them awake in the sleepy afternoon. Participants were given a Brainteaser activity in
which they going to solve the puzzle. The first who can solve the puzzle can get a price that
the trainer prepared. Somehow the said activity has served as an icebreaker.
Another group activity was given after the brainteaser, this time it is composed of 5 to 6
people 1 group must have a leader and secretary to write down all ideas. Each group will
pick a piece of paper where the assigned word was written and to brainstorm on, from that
assigned word the group should list as many products, services, and businesses they can
think of, the leader is the one to present their lists to the whole group. The longest list wins!
But during the presentation of their ideas, it was been twisted into omitted the same product
or services from other groups. (ang group nga daghan mabilin gikan sa pag tangal sa mga
magkapareha nga product or service mao daug.) Group 2 and Group 3 are the winners.
Collaboration & Teamwork of each group is present at that time. The said activities will help
them to come up with their own business ideas. At the end of the 1st-day training, they were
given an assignment or task to visit their local business area and count all the businesses
they may see.
DAY 2
AM session: Topic 2
The training started with a simple program and energizer. Then the session began with the
topic- Investigating your environment and Visiting the local area, which was given in advance
for them to answer activity 8. Then Analyze their own experiences and the experiences of
others as customers “Which Business Idea is Best for You?” Where they list down business
ideas to start their own business and follow with conducting a SWOT analysis from the ideas
list. The expected output for the main topic of the day is to write their own Business Idea
which is the basis for the 2nd module.
In the afternoon the Second module was discussed which the participants were able
to identify potential customers and why they need or use the products or services. Aside
from identifying they also have to find out how to assess the strengths and weaknesses of
their competitors. And finally, before the afternoon session ended the participants were able
to develop a marketing plan.
As emphasized by the trainer, for a business to be successful one needs to know
and understand both their Customer and Competitors “2Cs” and the “4Ps” (Product, Price,
Place, and Promotion) to know their market and Marketing. The day’s session ended
fruitfully.
Day 3
AM Session.
For the third day, Record-Keeping was further discussed which is one of the steps in
starting a business, business records make them find out if they are making a profit or not.
Record keeping worksheets were also given. This was followed by lessons on “Costing &
Profit” which in business very important- to make a profit and must not run out of cash.
Thereby emphasizing the importance of recording all the transactions made. The trainees
listened and focused themselves intently during the discussion. After which, the lesson on
“Make a cash flow plan” was discussed and trainees were given a group activity in which
they going to make a Cash flow plan Realistic and not too optimistic. “Calculated Start-up
capital “was also thought. At the same time, “Business Plan” was though also with 3 rules on
writing a business plan:
1. Keep it short. It should be short and concise
2. Know your audience. Write your plan using language that your audience will
understand.
3. Don’t be intimidated.
A good plan accomplishes three important tasks. First, it aligns the management
team toward a common set of goals. Finally, a business plan is a sales document: It aims to
attract professional investors who may only have time for a cursory glance at each idea that
crosses their desks.
Writing Business plan activity was done in the afternoon by the group. All groups
presented well and showed their own creative way of making the business plan. Everyone
enjoyed much in every activity, as they went through the day-to-day with this
Entrepreneurship training, they were enriched and enlightened with the new insights and
concepts that were needed to achieve the goal of entrepreneurship and that is to become a
successful entrepreneur in the future. The training ended with a simple closing prayer by
video presentation but with full baggage of learning on the part of the trainees as well as the
trainers.
