Movement break

Up/Down
Have the class stand in an open area. Tell them that you are going to say a word, and they should
squat if it is not a past tense verb and jump up in the air if it is a past tense verb. Make sure to
vary your pattern as you call out past tense and non-past tense verbs to the class. Play for as long
or short as you like. For an even more competitive game, any student that makes the wrong
movement is out. The final player in wins! (Related to past tense verbs)

Copy Cat Copycat is an easy active brain break idea that combines active play with
memorization skills. You don't need any equipment for this exercise - simply place your students
in pairs and have them mimic one another's movements. Have one student take the lead for half
the time, then the other for the second half.
