Objective:

To determine the plastic limit, liquid limit, and plasticity index of the soil.

Apparatus
Balance
Trays
Cups
Oven
Casagrande

PROCEDURE:

1. The researcher gathered soil that is being sieved and mixed together.
Starting from sieve no. 60 up to sieve no. 200.

2. The soil is being gathered and the researcher used water enable to roll the
soil with a diameter of 3.2 mm. Set aside the rolled sample once the diameter
needed is attained, it will be able to weighed.
3. The rolled samples were weighed by the researcher. The required weight
of the rolled sample should have a weight of at least 6 grams. Since the
weight of the aluminum cups are 2 grams, the researcher decided to make it
8 grams due to the circumstance that the weight of the cup is being
considered.

4. The researcher should have 3 sample trials for plastic limit.

5. The researcher gathered the next day to weigh the mass of the samples
that were being oven-dried. The data is needed for the computation.
PROCEDURE FOR LIQUID LIMIT

1.The researcher should have 3 sample trials for plastic limit. Upon achieving
the desired trials, samples should be ready for oven drying.

2. The water that is required for determining the liquid limit was applied to the
collected soil. To achieve the required revolution per experiment, the researcher
should evaluate the consistency of the soil-water mixture.

3. Trial 1 has a range of 30-35 revolution, trial 2 has 25-30, trial 3 has 20-25,
and lastly, trial 4 should have 15-20 revolution.
4. The researcher took water-soil samples during each trial and weigh them
on the scale.

5. The researcher prepared the samples to be put in the oven. After the
oven-dry process, the researcher will weigh again the samples that in
needed for the computation of the data.
