Alternative lifestyles

An alternative lifestyle is a way of living that is unusual especially when you choose not to have
the type of home, job and routine that is considered normal in modern society.

Alternative lifestyles were originated in 1920 starting with the flapper movement.

Flappers are known for being a generation of European young women, who had an eccentric
way of living for that time. They started to were short skirts; bobbing hair; wearing excessive
makeup; drinking; treating sex like a non-tabu manner; smoking and driving automobiles.

The reasons that lead people to live alternative lives can be A way people find to express
themselves; Personal beliefs; Religious beliefs; Influences; A way to draw attention and stand
out; To have new experiences; Believe in superstitions or Family heritage.

Examples:

We choose some examples, and we can separate them in several groups.

At first, we have the diets. Since our colleagues have already talked about this, we will not go
into this topic much further.

 The vegetarianism is the practice of living solely upon vegetables, fruits, grains,
legumes and nuts, with or without the addition of milk products and eggs
Generally, for ethical, environmental or nutritional reasons.
 Veganism excludes all foods of animal origin. Unlike vegetarians, vegans no longer
consume milk or eggs.
 The raw foodism is the diet practice of eating only uncooked foods.
Raw food diets may include a selection of fruits, vegetables, nuts, eggs and fish (sushi).

Next, we have Travelling, and, in this topic, we have the lifestyle travellers and house trucking

 Lifestyle travellers believe that you don’t have to be tied down to any one place, for
any amount of time, but can split your time between all the places that inspire you
most.
Instead of focusing on the traditional way of traveling, they make travel a lifestyle.

 House truckers are individuals, families and groups who convert old trucks and school
buses into mobile homes and live in them, preferring an unattached and transient
lifestyle to more conventional housing.

In Religion and Spiritually we have

 vampirism – This lifestyle descends from the goth communities and their practitioners
truly believe in being vampires.
Vampires say that they need blood, either animal or human, because their body will
process more energy, making them stronger and faster.
There are three types of members of a vampire community:

The Blood donors are people that allow vampires to drink their blood;

The Physic vampires are people that believe being vampires and admit that they must feed on
blood to balance a spiritual or physiological energy

And the vampire role players are vampire fans who dress up and live like a vampire but don't
truly believe to be one.

The Satanism is a religious practice that worships the Devil, Satan.

It began in 1966 with the founding of the church of Satan and is defined by a very specific
group of beliefs and rituals.

Satanism was once defined as "the opposition" and the word Satan meant "the adversary"

Next we have the nudism or naturalism lifestyle.

 Nudism is a cultural movement that advocates and defends the right of living naked in
communities.
They believe that living in contact with nature is a healthier way of living.
Since is not legal, participants need to do it in private property.

In the Unusual communities are the of-the-grid and hippies.

 off the grid is an alternative lifestyle designed to help a community function without
any type of electricity.
Going of-the-grid implies:
creating your own energy; supplying your own electricity and ditching your phone line
while relying on the city water and natural resources.

 The hippie movement started around the 60's, in the United States.
It started because a lot of teens decided to put in cause the society traditional values,
the economics and the military power.
Hippie community goals are: Change the world into a place of love, art and peace;
End poorness;.
Reduce atmospheric pollution;
And Free everyone from envy and egoism
They are known for living without rules, doing drugs and wearing colourful clothes.
The Polygamy is the term for when there is more one husband or wife in the same marriage.

We call Polygyny when a man has more than one wife and Polyandry when a woman is
married to more than one husband at the same time. (It is less popular than polygyny and is
illegal in every country of the world).

This graphic shows where polygamy is most widely practiced in 2019. We can see that it is in
Burkina Faso where polygamy is most practiced.

Impacts

Alternative lifestyle can lead to problems such as HIV; anorexia; drugs addiction, infections and
babies bad formation but also can brig benefits because some alternative diets are very health
and some alternative lifestyles help fighting global warming.

Conlusion

In conclusion there are many types of alternative lifestyles.

Everyone can live the way they want, and we should not judge people by their lifestyle.

Everyone should be free to decide which life they want, and we should not called it not normal
or freak.
