Rules for admission to M. Phil and Ph.D.

programmes (Phase – I)
(a) M. Phil Programme:

• In the first phase of admission to this programme, candidates having a valid NET – JRF
qualification certificate will be given admission. 40% of the total seats available in each
department will be filled through this process. The NET – JRF qualification certificate
should not be more than two years old at the time of approving the proposal for the
degree of the Ph.D. by the department research committee (tentative date of next DRC is
July 2015). These candidates will not be required to appear in the entrance test for
admission to this course. The merit list of all candidates will be prepared department
wise.

• Course of study for M.Phil. degree shall extend for a period of one academic year
covering two semesters out of which one semester will be common for the course work
prescribed for the Ph.D. programme.

• A candidate submitting application for admission in M.Phil programme must have


obtained a Master’s degree with at least 55% marks in the Post-graduate examination of
the university or of any other university / institution recognized as equivalent thereto in
the subject or any allied subject in which he / she wishes to pursue the course provided
that the master’s degree should have been obtained after taking Bachelor’s degree full
course prescribed for the degree.

• A relaxation of 5% in the minimum eligibility shall be applicable to the candidates


belonging to the categories of SC / ST / physically handicapped and visually impaired.

• In-service candidates shall not be eligible for admission to the M.Phil. course except that
Lecturers in the universities recognized by UGC / State Legislature / Central Legislature
and affiliated colleges may be allowed to join it but only after taking leave from their
employer for the duration of the course. For admission of teacher candidates to this
course, the teacher candidate must have:

a) A permanent position in any of the constituent / affiliated colleges.

b) Continuous experience of three years in UGC pay scale.

• Provisions of reservation as in force in the university shall apply.


• Final admission to this course will be made subject to verification of documents,
equivalence of P.G. degree and availability of seats in a department.

(b) Ph. D. Programme:

• In the first phase of admission to this programme, candidates having a valid NET – JRF
qualification certificate will be given admission. 40% of the total seats available in each

degree of the Ph.D. by the department research committee (tentative date of next DRC is
July 2015). These candidates will not be required to appear in the entrance test for
admission to this course. The merit list of all candidates will be prepared department
wise.

• A candidate submitting application for admission for the degree of Ph.D. in the faculty of
arts, fine arts. Music and Dramatics, Social Sciences, Sciences, Commerce, Education,
Law, Management and Engineering and Technology must have obtained the Masters
degree with at least 55% marks at Post-Graduate examination of the University or of any
other University / Institution recognized as equivalent thereto in any subject provided that
the masters degree should have been obtained after taking Bachelor’s degree full course
prescribed for the degree.

• A relaxation of 5% in the minimum eligibility shall be applicable to the candidates


belonging to the categories of SC / ST / physically handicapped and visually impaired.
• A permanent teacher candidate appointed on a substantive basis by duly constituted
selection committee as per the UGC qualifications with three years of continuous service
in any University teaching department or affiliated colleges of any University on regular
pay scale may also submit application for admission to this course. Such candidates may
be allowed to join this programme only after taking leave from their employer for the
duration of this course.
• The application of foreign students on a cultural exchange fellowship / government grant
may be considered in this phase. A foreign student will be considered only when he / she
come on research visa.
• Direct admission of those candidates who have completed M. Phil. course during 2011 –
14 through UNIRAJ MPAT exams (2010-2013) or of those candidates whose M. Phil.
result is awaited; will also be considered for admission in the Ph.D. programme.
• Final admission will be made subject to verification of documents, equivalence of P.G.
degree, availability of seats and supervisor.
• Provisions of reservation as in force in the university shall apply.
