Gerund Phrase

A gerund is a form of a verb that acts as a noun.

Examples:

1. Vaulting is my best event in gymnastics.

2. Swallowing hurt my sore throat.

A gerund phrase is made up of a gerund and its related words working as a


noun.

Examples:

1. Worrying about the deadline prevented the writer

from sleeping.

2. Fishing from the pier is permitted.

Infinitive Phrase

An infinitive phrase is made up of an infinitive and its related words working as a


noun, an adjective, or an adverb.

Examples:

1. To call that ape a humanoid is a mistake.

2. It is hardly the creature to deserve that name.

3. We should work to change the name.

4. The baby wanted to wiggle continuously.
