passage of time, this once unassuming community has blossomed into a
picturesque and forward-thinking settlement.

This location was purposefully picked out even though it is not in the
middle of a city; this is because rent in the countryside is far lower than in
the city itself. The company, which was starting, chose this site to cut down
on its overhead costs and take advantage of the fact that potential
customers did not have to come to the office physically.

process for this bench, which offers both comfort and a feeling of the old
days thanks to its inspiration from traditional bamboo benches in rural areas.
We can't replace the timeless elegance and practicality of a sofa made of
wood. A sofa is a staple piece of furniture in any living room because of its
aesthetic value. There are many high-quality alternatives to wood for sofa
sets on the market, but most people still prefer it. Wood's warm tones and
varied grain pattern are aesthetically pleasing. As an added bonus, the
finish of a wooden furniture is quite pleasant to the touch.

4 . MARKET ANALYSIS

Our market analysis is designed according to what the

organization thinks is an effective strategy, especially for our business.
Market analysis is essential for the industry to thrive and helps the
organization make wise decisions that align with what is best for the firm
and its people. Since we engage in the customization of interior space
and furniture, we considered understanding our target market's
preferences, our competitors in the field, and the possibility of the firm
expanding in the future for the organization to rely only on practical and
sensible decisions.

4.1 Marketing and Sales Strategy

Figure 28. RACE Framework.

RACE is an acronym that describes each of the four stages of the

marketing framework. Several steps involve making contact, taking action,
converting prospects, and finally becoming engaged. The cultivation of
leads is a multi-stage process with the end objective of converting
prospects into devoted customers or advocates of the brand.

31
4 . MARKET ANALYSIS

REACH. During this stage, also known as the Exploration Stage, the company
will publish and market its products and services, sharing this information with
other networks to entice more individuals to use its offerings.

ACT. This stage is also known as the Decision-Making stage, and it is during
this stage both the company and the client decide whether or not to move
forward with the project and plan the things the client wants to achieve.

CONVERT. At this point, the company will begin to perform and convert the
architectural solutions they agreed upon with the client. Additionally, they
will start to produce the design, both in interior and furniture, that the client
wants.

ENGAGE. Upon the finalization of the project, the firm will ask the clients to
provide feedback and engage with potential customers through social

4.2 Positioning Statement

We need more places to promote user-specific furnishings in

neglected areas, and we can fill that void. At ArchDes ComFirm, we're
dedicated to achieving a user-specific interior design by offering
ergonomic furniture to particular sectors in Misamis Oriental, such as mental
hospitals, orphanages, and facilities for people with disabilities (PWD) or
individuals who need their furniture customized.

4.3 Competitive Advantage

The firm's direct competitors are the firms offering the same services,
such as interior design companies that reside in the exact area of our
operations; it includes freelance practitioners such as independent
architects and interior designers. Furniture companies are also competitors
considering they offer to sell ready-made products in the markets and shops
in which the company specializes and focuses.

ArchDes ComFirm, located in the provinces of Misamis Oriental, is not

the first and only firm specializing in customizing interior spaces and
furniture. Among its local competitors in the interior design field are Interior
Design Decorator/Consultants and Furniture Designers, which all got at least
a 4-star review on their social media accounts, while the competitors in the
furniture design field are the local branches of established companies like
Our Home, Mandaue Foam Furniture and Fourlinq. What makes our business
nature unique from the competitors, as mentioned earlier, and all the other
local competitors, is that the business offers people their service according
to what they strongly prefer and need, especially Persons with Disabilities
(PWD). Our products and services will not only provide them with ready-
made designs and furniture but could also modify some features and add
modifications that are still in compliance with the standard design.

4.4 SWOT Analysis

The primary objective of ArchDes ComFirm's SWOT analysis is to

determine the relative merits of the many factors that make up the
company and the business itself (SWOT). The success or failure of an
enterprise may be gauged by doing a SWOT analysis.

34
4 . MARKET ANALYSIS

In the firm, we considered this analysis as the business’ lifeline where

we could, perhaps, treat it as the foundation of all the countermeasures
we opt to do and practice in our firm throughout its operation. We mustn't
act out of complacency, but we also examine its downside that may
affect the firm in the long run. That way, efficient operation, and mitigation
measures will be provided.

Figure 29. SWOT Analysis

The company is very good at coming up with creative ideas that will
positively affect society. Despite this, the company faces a significant
obstacle in the form of constitutional restrictions and budgetary concerns,
which could impede its ability to reach the consumers they are trying to
achieve. On the other hand, there are a variety of external circumstances
that have an immediate influence on the company. The virtual reality (VR)
and augmented reality (AR) technologies would significantly increase the
opportunity for the company to expand its expertise while simultaneously
increasing the demand for the service itself. Because of this, we only
consider these to be drawbacks. Furthermore, we cannot argue against
the fact that unanticipated client preferences and rivals offering similar
services at lower costs would pose a danger to the business.

4.5 Marketing Plan

A company's marketing plan may call for various tactics employed

by multiple departments to achieve that goal. In business, it serves as a
road map for planning, implementing, and assessing marketing efforts. A
marketing strategy is a strategic document that outlines how an
organization intends to reach out to potential customers and advertise its
products or services to attract a particular consumer.

changes over time, going from a space that relied heavily on high-quality
materials and elaborate decor to its current form as a simple, modern
hideaway from the day-to-day. Gradually, modern touches have been
incorporated, striking the ideal balance between aesthetics and
practicality without sacrificing elegance.

4.5.4 Process

In availing of the services offered by the design firm, there is a specific

transaction process that clients and customers must follow. These steps are
to be followed to ensure quality results of the projects requested from the
design firm. In Figure 40, the transaction process is shown where initial
consultation is specified to the Final phase of the transaction process.

Figure 43. Process

Figure 43 shows the planning and consultation for the final

recommended plan which are agreed upon throughout the design
development stage. The last quotation can be released if everything is
settled on the design. After that, you will be able to draft a contract for legal
and commercial endeavors, such as obtaining a business license and other
essential paperwork.

52
4 . MARKET ANALYSIS

After the completion of the building project, the final payment should
be made, and then everything will be finished. During the construction
process, the final product is created under the direction of the specialists.

Initial Consultation. The company is required to go over the client's

requests and concerns and confirm the project transaction while they
are conducting the initial consultation.

Contract Binding. After all of the essential information has been

gathered, the client and the architect in charge of the project will sign
a contract in which all of the terms and conditions from both sides will
be spelled out in full.

Initial Downpayment (50%). To ensure that they will be working on the

project, the client must pay a deposit equal to fifty percent of the total
price of the quotation before work can begin. If the initial down
payment is not made, the company will not start designing and
producing the goods.

Design Process. Following the collection of the initial payment, the

company will move on to the phase consisting of planning and design
following the timeline devised for a specific project. On occasion, the
architect and the client will have contrasting opinions on a particular
aspect of the building's design or construction. Because of this, it is
crucial to take into account the client's preferences and to offer ideas
in a compelling manner.

Final Payment (50%) and Delivery. Once the desired project is done,
and the contracts are met, the firm should remind the client to pay the
rest of the fee before handing out the service or the product. Specific
considerations and changes might also be applied as both parties
agree.

4.6 Logistics and Operations Plan

This subsection gives the technical and operational plan of the

company, which explains how the design and production processes are
carried out in the business. In this section, every step that must be taken to
complete the task at hand will be broken down and presented in the form
of a flowchart.

4.6.1 Technical

In this section, specifics of the technical aspects of the business are

shown as well as the process of design realization in logistics and
operational plans. In figure 51, the step-by-step process of the concept to
rendering and modeling process is specified.

Figure 52. Technical

59
4 . MARKET ANALYSIS

The procedure used during the design phase, as shown in figure 52, is
regarded as technical because it is one of the crucial phases in bringing
the finished service or product to completion. In both furniture and interior
design, the process of coming up with a plan and designing it based on the
client's requests and requirements involves brainstorming. However, it is also
essential to remember that even though the company is geared toward
serving the needs of its customers.

Manual Sketch. Sketching is an excellent tool for defining an idea, for giving
form to an abstract concept that has so far only existed in the designer's
head during the conceptualization phase of interior design and
architecture. Most importantly, throughout that time of freehand drawing,
ideas were being developed by manual sketching.

2D Software. A 2D software helps the designer space plan display a

fundamental overview of the layout in a way that is both obvious and
precise, enabling customers to focus on the essentials without becoming
distracted by the minute details.

3D Software. The ability of interior/furniture designers to successfully

communicate their concepts to their clients through three-dimensional
visualization using 3D Software is a powerful tool that can increase the rate
at which projects are approved. Clients can change or adapt designs in
3D interior design, which gives them more influence over the final product.

Rendering Software. A rendered image allows designers to develop

incredibly detailed and lifelike designs, which they can then share with their
customers. The efficient and effective communication of ideas enabled by
these precise graphics results in cost savings for your initiatives.

4.6.2 Operational

In this section, the operation process is specified into four steps, from
which the planning occurs to the delivery phase of the operational process.
Figure 52 shows the step-by-step flow of the operational process of the
transactions taking place for each project.

Figure 53. Operational

The particular actions that must be taken to acquire the services or

furniture goods offered by the firm are detailed in the Operational plan
which is shown in figure 53. The procedures include the planning phase, the
designing phase, the payment phase, and the delivery phase. These are
the four steps that make up the operations.

61
4 . MARKET ANALYSIS

Planning Phase. When the company takes on a project for interior and
furniture design drafting services, they first either check the job site and
carry out a walk-through or talk with the customer face-to-face about the
factors that are important for them to take into account. In contrast to
construction, interior design is a highly individual endeavor. You must get to
know your customer to put yourself in the customer's position.

Designing Phase. Once the client has approved the pre-design, the
designer can let their imagination run wild and begin the actual design
process. Adding the finishing touches to your design is the primary focus of
the design development phase. The goal is to provide a design that is a
synthesis of the client's authorized design and the architectural style of the
building.

Payment Phase. The payment phase refers to the payment transaction in

which the client must pay the whole amount in two parts, with the first
payment accounting for fifty percent of the total and the remaining
balance accounting for the remaining fifty percent.

Delivery Phase. After the design or the furniture product is completed, it will
be ready to be sent to the customer. After the first three (3) months of
business operations, the customers will be responsible for paying for the
delivery service of furniture goods; nevertheless, the company will continue
to cover the delivery cost during the first three (3) months of business
operations. In terms of the design services, the completed design will be
printed out in the form of a blueprint, and this blueprint will be handed over
to the customer in person during the transaction.

5. FINANCIAL PLAN AND PROJECTIONS

are shown and explained. In addition, the analysis of the company's break-
even point, its return on investments and equity, and its sources of funding
and uses of the company's money will be presented in this section.

5.1 Projected Financial Statements

This subparagraph will concentrate on the company's predicted

financial statements and make projections regarding the firm's incoming
and outgoing funds. Aside from that, the sole purpose of this subsection is
to supply the essential facts that will be used to project the balance sheets

January 1, 2022 until December 31, 2022. As recorded in the data
above, the services revenues of the company focus on the three
services that the firm offers such as the furniture design and products,
interior design and consultation services. The total accumulated

Aside from that, the income statement also presents the

summary of the annual expenses of the company. Before starting the
business, the company spent ₱240,000 for the rent of the office, buying of
computer equipment, printers and other necessary equipment for the
company which costs a total of ₱700,000, with a depreciation of ₱500,000.
Aside from that, the table also shows the expenses in terms of utilities,
internet, load allowance, office supplies, transportation fare of employees
during client meetings, and the prepaid insurance of the company.
Moreover, it also shows how the business give importance to its marketing
strategies as they spent a total of ₱50,000 for the whole year. The
outsourcing expenses, on the other hand, refers to the fees that the
company has paid to the outsourcing craftsmen who built the customized
furniture. Lastly, the salary expenses of the employees were also included in
the statement which cost ₱ 2,833,989.60 for the whole year of working within
the company.

For all the revenue and expenses that the firm collected and spent
during the whole year. It was actually ₱1,377,847.90 but since the firm has
an obligation to pay for the tax as a sole proprietorship business, 32% of the
income before tax were deducted which gave a remaining net income for
the firm of ₱936,936.57. As a startup business, the company believes that it
is already good enough knowing that the business market of the company
is unique.

5. FINANCIAL PLAN AND PROJECTIONS

Cash flow is the net inflow and outflow of currency and other liquid
assets for a certain period. Inflows are defined as cash received, while
outflows are defined as cash spent. The table above shows the cash flow
statement of the company at the end of the year which is on December
31, 2022. At the start of the cash flow from operating expenses of the
company, the cash received from clients were indicated which is
₱7,725,187.50. From that amount, deductions were maid for the payments
to outsource partners, wages of the employees, insurance of the company,
utility fees, internet, office supplies, load allowance of the employees,
transportation fare, rental fee of the office, sales and marketing strategy
and lastly is the office renovation. Those operational expenses which leaves
a net cash of ₱1,577,847.9.

And from the remaining cash that was received from the clients, a
total amount of ₱1,200,000 were deducted for the payments to acquire
computer equipment. This deduction was called the cash flows from
investing activities and the remaining net cash from the company is only
₱377, 847.9. As such, the cash flow form financing activities shows the
amount of money that the owner invested in the company. The cash
receives as investment by owner was ₱5,000,000 cash.

The next part shows the net increase of the company’s cash flow
which shows that at the beginning of the period which is January 1, 2022,
the company has a total fund of ₱5,000,000 and with all the deductions
and expenses for the operation of the company, the remaining cash from
the revenues which is ₱377, 847.90 were added to it which shows a total
amount of ₱5, 377, 847.90 and this means that it is the cash balance at for
the end of the period of December 31, 2022.

5. FINANCIAL PLAN AND PROJECTIONS

The balance sheets of the company as shown above reflects the

firms’ assets and liabilities since January 1, 2022. As the assets indicates, the
current assets of the firm were only in cash in bank, which is ₱5,827,847.90,
the office supplies which is ₱120,000 and the prepaid insurance which is
₱500,000. The assets that are considered current assets are those that you
anticipate either converting to cash or using within the next year or within
one business cycle. Moreover, the non-current assets of the company is only
the computer equipment which costs ₱1,200,000 along with its
depreciation costs.

Liabilities are the opposite of assets in this context. A company's

liabilities are the sums of money that it is legally obligated to pay at some
point in the future. Liabilities that are considered current are those that are
anticipated to be paid off within the next year or within one business cycle,
whichever comes first. The company has accounts payable totaling
₱1,500,000. While the amount of the notes payable is ₱1,027,847.90 and the
amount of the petty cash available for emergency situations is ₱120,000. As
a result, the combined sum of the company's liabilities is ₱2,647,847.90. The
firm can learn a lot about the valuations used to assets and the reasons why
we could differ from our own expectations by reading the notes that
accompany the financial statements. Many liabilities, like many
advantages, are obvious. The company may not view something as a
liability, yet it still needs to be recorded as such.

As for the owner’s equity as of December 31, 2022, the owner

releases the amount of ₱5,000,000. From this, the total liabilities and owner’s
equity is ₱7,647,847.90 at the end of the year. The company have assets if
they own something of value. Equity held by firm owners acts more like a
debt. It is a measure of the owner's interest in the company's residual value
after all liabilities have been satisfied.

From the assumptions of projected financial statement above, it

shows the increase or decrease of the financial status of the company
in the year 2022 and 2023. As indicated, the firm expects an increase of
25% in the furniture industry's net assets for the year 2023. The prices of
goods and services will likewise go up, while the amount of money
made from interior design projects will rise. As projected, there is a 25%
increase in the net sales of the furniture in the year 2023. On the other
hand, as the sale increase, the costs of goods and services also increase
as they are connected to one another.

70
5. FINANCIAL PLAN AND PROJECTIONS

Aside from that, the firm also expects a 25% increase in the gross
margin of furniture. Moreover, the company also projected that the net
sales for interior design service will increase for 10%, and the next sales
for the consulting services will remain the same from the year 2022 since
it is only an extra income from the company. Therefore, the firm
concludes that the total revenue from 2022 to 2023 will eventually
increase.

The next assumptions focus more on the pricing rate of furniture

products. The firm expects a five percent increase in the rate of pricing
for furniture goods and a ten percent increase in the rate for interior
design. In the table above, there was an increase of 5% in the fee for
outsource craftsmen. And another 10% increase from the rate of small
projects. Moreover, there is also a 10% increase for both average, semi-

5. FINANCIAL PLAN AND PROJECTIONS

As the rate of the services increases, the firm also projected an

increase in the company’s annual expenses. Utilities will go up in price
as a direct result of the growing demand for their services. In addition to
this, the company intends to broaden the scope of the social media
marketing campaign and provide additional funds for office supplies.

As shown in the table above, the annual payment for electricity,

water, and internet will increase in the year 2023. Aside from that, the
sales and marketing strategy budget will also increase for about 25% as
the firm decide to expand their services in different areas in the
Philippines. On the other hand, as the projects increase, the office
supplies are also expected to increase its budget since they will be the
most used in the company. Though the data also shows that the other
expenses such as the outsourcing fee, salary expense, computer
equipment, depreciation, rent expense, load allowance, transportation
fee and insurance fee will remain the same for the two consecutive
years.

All in all, the firm expects an increase in the total amount of the
annual expenses. Management's optimistic view of the company's
financial future as of a specified future date is reflected in the projected
financial statements, which factor in the most recent trends and
forecasts. The income statement and balance sheet in the planned
financial statements will be at the summary level. A revenue trend line
and expense percentages based on current ratios are commonplace
ways to calculate these figures. Indeed, one of the most important
foundational documents that a new firm must have is a business plan.
The financial estimates for the first two years have to be one of the
primary components of this document.

5. FINANCIAL PLAN AND PROJECTIONS

The results of a break-even analysis can be used as a basis for other

considerations, such as the setting of prices and costs. You'll be able to
determine whether or not it's worthwhile to pursue the endeavor at all, as
well as whether or not you'll need to take out loans to keep your company
afloat until it begins to generate profits. The break-even analysis of the
company, which is displayed in the table that is located above, displays
the point in time at which the initial investment is repaid in full, meaning that
you have neither made nor lost any money as a result of the enterprise.

The table above shows that the actual forecasted total yearly sales of
the company in December 31, 2022 is ₱ 7,725,187.50. From that sales, the
total variable costs was ₱ 5,185,739.60. And its variable cost percentage
from the company’s total yearly sales if 67%. Aside from that, the total fixed
costs was also indicated which now includes the common expenses of the
company with a total fixed costs of ₱2,193,600.00.

The calculation considers unit price, as well as both fixed and variable
costs. In contrast to variable costs, fixed costs don't change based on sales
volume. Expenses that don't fluctuate much over time include things like
rent or mortgage payments, equipment purchases, employee wages,
interest on capital, and insurance premiums. Expenses that go up and
down with revenue are called "variable." Payroll expenses for hourly
workers, sales commissions, and the prices of raw materials, utilities, and
shipping all fall under the category of variable costs. What goes into making
a single unit of your product are known as variable costs, and they include
things like labor and materials. With the information above, the firm
received a break-even point of ₱6,673,092.72.

Total Assets ₱700,000

It's crucial to keep a few things in mind when assessing return on

investment figures. To start, a percentage is a more straightforward
representation of ROI than a ratio. Because investment returns can be
both positive and negative, the net return is factored into the numerator
when calculating return on investment. In some cases, the simplicity of
the ROI formula is deceiving. Calculating the return on investment for a
business endeavor is one example where this is more difficult to do.

As indicated in the table above, the annual net income of the firm
is around ₱936,936.57. And for the return on investment, the next income
was deducted with the total assets which only includes the computer
equipment since they are the only one that can be used for a long time.
In conclusion, the percentage of the return on investment of the
company is 1.34% from the annual net income.

Total Assets ₱7,647.847.9

Total Liabilities ₱2,647,847.90

RETURN ON EQUITY 18.74%

Due to the fact that the firm has total assets worth ₱7,647,847.90
pesos, which are derived from its base owners' equity amounting to
5,000,000 pesos and its total liability amounting to ₱2,647,847.90 pesos,
the company is in a position to conduct business in accordance with
the overall expenses and labor wages. Its yearly break-even analysis of
the financial plan has shown that its overall liabilities are in line with what
was expected. Approximately ₱936,937 pesos is the amount that can
be considered the firm’s net income. After considering items like as
taxes, interest, and operational costs, a company's net income is the
entire amount of money it made in a specific time period.

One measure of a company's financial health is its Return on Equity,

or ROE, which looks at how much money it made relative to how much
money its owners put in. Return on Equity (ROE) is a measure of a
company's profitability relative to its stockholders' equity expressed as a
percentage of net income. The company's return on equity is 18.74
percent, and its net income accounts for around 12.25 percent of the
company's total assets. The return on equity is 18.74%, meaning that for
every ₱100 in share capital, the company makes ₱18.74 in profit.

TOTAL USES OF FUNDS ₱5,797,340

The initial source of capital for the newly formed company is the
proprietors' equity, which is valued at 5 million pesos. The production of
furniture goods, which is the company's primary business objective, will bring
in revenue for the company during the business process. The interior design
work and project advice that is carried out in accordance with the situation
will constitute the second source of revenue. There are fixed assets that exist
over a business, and in the case of the firm, operation costs are something
that would cause a run for money. This means that so long as the business
continues to function, its operation costs will always play a part in the
company's usage of funds. The final one is on its sales and marketing
strategy, and the reason why this area uses funds is because business
changes over time, and one way to stay on track is to elevate the
competition by investing in its marketing and sales strategy.

As indicated in the figure 53, the black broken line represents the total
revenue, the red line represents the total costs, the green line represents the
fixed costs, and the purple broken line is the variable costs. According to
the preceding graph, the break-even point is reached when total revenues
are equal to total costs, both fixed and variable. The point at which a
company breaks even is the point at which it no longer loses money. This is
why the term "no-profit”, or "no-loss point" is commonly used to describe the
moment at which a business is no longer making a loss.
The figure above shows the summary of analysis for the revenue and
expenses of the firm the year 2022 and 2023. The point where the purple line
(total revenue) meets the red line which is the total cost. The figure above
implies that there is an increase in the sales by the start of the year 2022
and the end of the year 2023. With an average number of twenty-six (26)
clients per year for the furniture and interior design and twenty (20) clients
for consultation, the firm expects more than a million of increase in the sales.

Products and Services

Architecture Industry
As more Filipinos participate in international contests and
expos, the country's architectural and interior design scenes are
beginning to mature (Chek, 2022). Since we are a design business
and part of the architectural sector, ArchDes ComFirm wants to
spread the word that working as an interior designer in the Philippines
is a great way to make a living. The company is interested in creating
visually appealing environments that encourage visitors to pause,
relax, and absorb it all through their senses. Designers will ensure that
sensory approaches to interior design are prioritized, even as they
focus on lighting and the brightness of space. In adapting buildings
and environments to new uses, the firm seeks to imply that certain
design tendencies will influence how we view and use these places
in the future.

101
APPENDICES

Competition and Industry Information

The furniture and interior design firms that offer design

consulting services are the direct competitors of the design firm
because they provide the same services. In addition to that, furniture
designers were thought of as another direct competitor of the
company.

The do-it-yourself (DIY) industry is typically the only arena

where interior design firms face indirect competition from other
businesses (Research Dive, 2022). The company aims to assess the
more involved "do-it-yourself" and "buy-it-yourself" options that
customers will find available. On the opposite end of the spectrum is
the client who wants to "just get it done." Archdes ComFirm can help
this client find resources to decorate their homes and offices in an
inspirational, inviting, and motivating style.

Industries reliant on people's ingenuity and originality make up

what is known as the creative economy, which can produce both
money and employment via the creation of intellectual property
(FutureLearn, 2022). The Creative Economy Outlook was released in
2018 by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development
(UNCTAD). It was calculated that the creative economy in the
Philippines is responsible for Php177, 650,000 in exports and
Php50,325,000,000 in services. An estimated 7% of GDP comes from
the creative sectors. Although the numbers look good at first glance,
the Philippines is far behind the other ASEAN countries, contributing
only 2% of the total.

102
APPENDICES

With a CAGR of 11.6% between 2014 and 2018, the global

market for design services was worth almost Php8,426,000,000 billion
in 2018. By 2022, that number is projected to rise to nearly
Php13,722,500,000,000, a whopping 13% increase (The Business
Research Company, n.d). Strong economic growth in emerging
economies, fast technical advancements, demographic
upheavals, and the expansion of the design industry all contributed
to the increase during the epoch's historical era. Lack of trained
personnel and phony products slowed development during the
period in question.

1. Company Firm Benchmarking Tool

Source: Strategic Management Insight

STRATEGIC BENCHMARKING. This method of comparison helps managers

find an edge in the marketplace. Successful business models are dissected
during the process and incorporated into the company' own strategic
planning. To identify alternative strategic options, it is normal practice to
compare strategic objectives.

PERFORMANCE BENCHMARKING. The focus is on contrasting the various

offerings from your business. Bogan and English (1994) state that the tool
can measure anything with measurable metrics, including processes, but
that its primary focus is on product and service quality, features, pricing,
speed, dependability, design, and customers' pleasure. By comparing our
results to those of our rivals, we can gauge how well we're doing in the
market.

114
RESOURCES

PROCESS BENCHMARKING. In order to enhance your own operations, you

need to examine those of other businesses in a comparable industry and
learn from their successes and failures. While there are many types of
benchmarking, performance benchmarking is the foundation for which
process benchmarking is built. This is because, first, businesses single out the
areas where their products or services fall short in comparison to the
competition, and then, second, they zero in on the most important methods
for improving those areas. Using performance comparison, a company
realizes that its product X is superior to the competition in terms of features,
manufacturing quality, and design, but it also costs more. The next step is
for the company to identify the procedures that contribute most to the final
price of the product, and then figure out how to make those procedures
more efficient by studying those used by other businesses that produce
similar goods or services for less money.
