A Summary of The Boy Who Cried Wolf

The Boy Who Cried Wolf is a fable by Aesop, which tells us all about the

consequences of lying. A young Shepherd Boy once watched after his sheep at the foot

of a mountain near a gloomy forest where he’s been feeling somewhat bored and lonely

all day. So he devised a plan to bring himself some entertainment; he screamed out,

"Wolf! Wolf!" and the villagers rushed as soon as they heard to come for his help and

drive the wolves away; but there was no wolf; so they got mad because of his foolish

idea. This delighted the boy so much that he repeated the act later on, and once again,

the locals rushed to his aid, only to find out that there was no wolf at all. However,

shortly after this, a Wolf emerged from the forest and began to scare the sheep, and the

boy, of course, shouted out "Wolf! Wolf!" even louder than before. But this time, the

villagers, who had already been deceived twice, assumed the boy was trying to deceive

them again, and no one bothered to come to his aid. So the Wolf feasted on the boy's

sheep; and when the boy protested, the local wise man said “Nobody believes a liar,

even when he is telling the truth!”
