Little Boy Crying by Mervyn Morris

To begin the emotions of this poem are depicted by the reader, so I chose to use images that

depicted just that. The first image I needed was the crying baby to show the largest emotional

contributor to the poem. Who feels more than a child who does not yet understand feelings. Next, I

chose the monster-like creature to depict what the baby might see in the father like figure in the poem.

The bird represents the freedom the baby waits for. The heart represents the love of the baby and the

misunderstood ogre. The tower represents the steps of life. I used the leaning tower to depict that life is

not a straight road.

Love the first adjective represents both the love of the ogre and that of the baby. Hiding

represents the response of the towering ogre. Crying represents the main theme of a baby crying due to

the miscommunication of age. Fear is represented for both the baby and the ogre who fears hurting the

baby. Wait represents the plotting of the baby.

“A colossal cruel” represents the idea the baby has of the ogre. “You hate him” is the false

emotion the baby feels for the ogre. “Dare not ruin the lessons you should learn” is the idea the baby

might not understand the intentions of his father figure but should still heed word even though he is so

young. “Wait you cannot understand” represents the idea parents have that babies cannot see them

through behavior. “Not yet” is the time the baby must wait to express his experience.
