Honoring

The Navajo Nation


WHEREAS, the Navajo Nation is a federally recognized tribe with land covering Arizona, New
Mexico, and our state of Utah;

WHEREAS, whereas the Navajo Nation is a sovereign nation within the boundaries of the
United States of America;

WHEREAS, the Navajo Nation operates with full governments independent of the American
government;

WHEREAS, the Navajo Nation works with Utah government agencies to cohabitate Utah
peaceably while maintaining their identity as a distinct and separate political community;

WHEREAS, the Navajo Nation has honored us with their presence today in the Utah State
Capitol;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the State of Utah, the
Governor concurring therein, honors the leaders of the Navajo Nation:

Honorable Navajo Council Delegate Eugenia Charles-Newton
Honorable Navajo Council Delegate Curtis Yanito

Honorable Navajo Council Delegate Jermain Simonson

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Utah House of Representatives thank the Navajo
leaders for coming to the Utah Capitol today and for working with the Utah State Government
to govern both Utah and the Navajo Nation in ways that can make Utah a land for all our
citizens to thrive in health, safety, and peace.
