LITERATURE 1: WORLD LITERATURE

ACTIVITY 5

Answer the following items/questions CONCISELY. AVOID PLAGIARISM.

A. What is the underscored universality of the short story Love in the Cornhusks by Aida L.
Rivera-Ford? Elaborate. (15 points)

The universality of the short story for me is “Regrets” because of the love
between Amado and Tinang that didn't work out due to unexpected circumstances.
Tinang was forced and decided to marry Bagobo because she thought that Amado was
lost and had suddenly disappeared. It was too late to read the letter from Amado because
she already had a husband and a child. She realized Amado's love and she was the same
as before. Tinang still has feelings for Amado, but it's too late. So, for me, regret is the
universality of this short story because of the choice of her decision where there was
regret in their love that did not continue. We also experience many regrets in our lives
once we make our decision but we don't know if it will be good for our future. So, I know
that more readers will also relate to this short story.

B. How did inner conflict transpire in Rivera’s short story? Cite particular situations or
moments wherein this type of conflict was unveiled. (15 points)

Through her inner struggle that she makes a difficult decision that she regrets
afterwards. The inner conflict is shown when Tinang realized that Amado is still in love
with him after she read the letter from Amado but she has a husband and she has a child.
She read the letter too late, but it dropped to the cornhusk and lost and she never
responded to Amado's letter.

C. How are you going to explain the theme of the story? (15 points)

The theme of the is about making future choices or decisions without knowing what
would happen. You must face the reality, even if it is hard to accept. Learn about the
decisions you make and consider them several times before making your final choice. As a
result, you will have no regrets afterwards.
