1. Watch your video and describe your verbal communication in the following areas
(use the front and back of this page as necessary):
a. Speed/pace of delivery: are you talking too slowly, too fast, etc.?
I think I talk about the right pace it’s just the volume
b. Volume: are you talking too loud, too soft, all one dynamic level, etc.?
It stays at one volume and personally I think it is a little too soft, especially
when students are playing at the same time
c. Choice of vocabulary: are the words being used at the students’ level of
comprehension?
I have a variety of times where I think I chose words that might be too
advanced, especially when discussing the staggard entrances
d. Clarity of thought: is it easy to understand what you are saying?
I think at times I find it hard to hear myself, which is key when wanting to
give instruction. I don’t have much of a “commanding” voice.
e. Balance between verbal and nonverbal communication (gestures, facial
expression, etc.): are you talking too much, too little, etc.?
When it comes to nonverbal around the 3 min. mark I point to the section
that is playing in the staggard entrances so students who need to can know when
to come in and following which ever section.
I also think I talk a little too much, so many of the times I stop can be
squished down into 15 sec. phrases and if I want to change it I can add something
a second time.
f. Enunciation and inflection
I think the clarity of enunciation is enough where students can understand
my biggest takeaway for myself is that I don’t have a typically loud voice.
g. Feedback given to students: are you being specific? Are you being honest?
I tend to say “Good job” immediately after they stop or “that sounded
good” but I’m never too specific on what sounded good. So that is definitely a
next step that needs to be added in.
