- The types of biomolecules

The 4 main types of biomolecules are : 1. Lipids, 2. Nucleic Acids, 3. Carbohydrates, and 4.
Proteins. The DNA and RNA in the 4 biomolecules have the unique function of storing an
organism's genetic code. The 4 main biomolecules are produced by cells and living
organisms.

- The purpose and outcome of Benedict Test

The purpose of the Benedict test is to determine the presence of reducing sugars in an
analyte. The outcome of the Benedict test will be either blue if there is no presence of
reducing sugars, green if it is traceable, yellow if it is a low presence, orange if it is a
moderate presence, and red if it is a high presence. Chemical wise in the Benedict test the
reaction that happens is that when the reducing sugars are heated which changes the colour of
the solution. This means that the hotter the reducing sugars are heated the higher the
concentration in the final result.

- Explain how the experiment works and how the solution will change in
colour
The experiment works by first adding 3 milliliters of the sample into the tube. After that you
add 3 milliliters of the Benedict reagent to the sample. Then you heat it for 3-5 minutes and
observe the colour change. The solution will change in colour when the reducing sugars and
Benedict's reagent are heated at the same time allowing the solution to change into a
orange-red colour.

- Why is Benedict test categorized as semi quantitative measurement?

The Benedict test is categorized as a semi quantitative measurement because it has a wide
range of colours (Blue, green, yellow, orange, brown, and red). The Benedict test is semi
quantitative because it contains numbers indicating the amount of reducing sugar in a sample.
Lastly the Benedict Test is also semi quantitative because it can be used to estimate the
approximate concentration of reducing sugar in a sample.
