About the University
CHRIST (Deemed to be University) was born out of the educational vision of St Kuriakose
Elias Chavara, an educationist and social reformer of the nineteenth century in South
India. The institution began as Christ College in 1969 and grew gradually in numbers
and infrastructure. It gained a reputation for its outstanding academic achievements. In
2004, the UGC conferred Autonomy to the college and was identified as an Institution with
Potential for Excellence in 2006. It was declared an institution deemed to be a university
by the Ministry of Education on 22 July 2008. The Lavasa campus offers many UG, PG,
and doctoral-level programmes in Commerce, Law, Data Science and Management.
Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and highly qualified faculties, the Analytical Hub
aims to help students achieve academic excellence through a diverse range of teaching
methodology, modern curriculum and innovative research practices. Christ (Deemed to
be University), Pune Lavasa Campus promotes a culture that embodies the philosophy
of ‘Excellence and Service’. Christ, Lavasa campus is situated in the lush green Sahyadri
Mountains 70 kilometres far from the Pune city. The institution is special in its way for its

About the Department
Department of Data Science of CHRIST (Deemed
to be University), Lavasa is established to shape
students into outstanding data scientists, analytics
professionals and policy analysts with ethical and
human values. The department offers various
undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, viz.
BSc Data Science, MSc Data Science, BSc Economics
& Analytics, MSc Economics & Analytics, and Ph.D.
in Data Science and Engineering.
The department has rich expertise in faculty
resources who are well trained in various fields
like Data Science, Data Security, Data Analytics,
Macroeconomics, Public Policy, Econometrics,
AI, ML, Networking, Big Data, Text Mining, Soft
Computing, and Cloud Computing. The department
has a wide variety of labs set up, namely Machine
learning lab, Data Analytics Lab, Open-Source lab,
etc., exclusively for the hands-on training of students
for their lab-oriented courses and research.
About the Workshop
Applied econometrics integrates conceptual
econometrics and empirical data to offer
insight into the dynamics of economic theories.
Against this context, the workshop is aimed to
impart knowledge of econometric models and
techniques that facilitate empirical research
in the domain of economics and finance. The
workshop aims to cover a wide repertoire
of econometric topics which will allow the
participants to obtain a deeper understanding
of how to analyse economic and financial data
and how to derive policy conclusions through
the use of different methods. The workshop will
not only equip participants with econometric
methods of data analysis but it shall also
delineate the road map for applications of
these models in empirical research.
Pedagogy and Target Audience:
This workshop will focus on the theoretical understanding of econometrics as well as
hands-on training using various econometric packages like EViews, Stata and R. The workshop
will be beneficial to the undergraduate, postgraduate students and research scholars.
