I. Introduction

Food wastage is a big problem to this world. It’s kind of ironic to think that we
humans suffer from world hunger yet there is a lot of wasted food. That’s
humans for ya. According to ThinkEatSave humanity wastes approximately 1.3
billion tonnes of food every year. To put that into perspective that is
216,666,666 full grown elephants. EVERY YEAR! So obviously peoole have tried
to atleast put a dent to this food waste problem. Some succeeded some were
less fortunate, but it’s quite obvious that we can help a little bit by being
mindful of our food wastage. So I will be showing how much food is wasted in
our household and how to prevent them

II. Before eating

Before we start I think it’s important to say that our household rarely waste
food. Since our Dad is very strict on food waste. Even if there is no choice Dad
would eat a lot of food to prevent food wastage. If not well… We will get to
that in a bit. Ok let’s start

The food we ate at the time of making this is 2 pieces of chicken, about 12-20
pieces of pork chops, 2 bowls of Sinigang baboy, and 20-26 sliced mangoes.
The 2 pieces of chicken and the pork chops are served in the same plate. So
when I weighed the food it weighed in about 390 grams including the plate.
The plate weighed about 250 grams so. 390 – 250 is 140 grams of food that
was served. Next is 2 bowls of Sinigang baboy. The 1st bowl had 890 grams and
the other had 810, because it had less vegetables. So in total it had 890 + 810
equaling to 1,700 or 1.7 kilograms of sinigang. But we haven’ttaken to account
the bowl. I measured both the bowl at 800 in total and 400 per plate. So 1,700
– 800 = 1,100 or 1.1 kg worth of Sinigang. Next is the sliced mangoes. It
weighed about 810 grams including the plate. The plate weighed about exactly
500 grams. So the sliced mangoes themselves were 310 grams. So the total
weight of the food we ate is about 140 + 1,100 + 310 = 1,550 or 1.55 kilograms
of food before consumption.
III. After eating

After eating obviously the foods have been reduced in weight. I also didn’t
consider the consumed rice since they were all finished and would only make a
mess. The 2 chicken snd pork chops now weighed 320 grams compared to it’s
390 weight before consumption. 320 – the weight of the plate which is 250
gives us a total of 70 grams worth of chicken and pork chop. The 2 bowls of
Sinigang now weighed 611 grams and 595 for the second bowl. 611 + 595 =
1,206 grams of Sinigang was left. Minus that with the bowl we get 406
Meaning we ate nearly half a kilogram of Sinigang. The sliced mangoes were
now 770 grams. Minus that with the bowl we get 270. Add them all together
we get 746 grams worth of food that was untouched

IV. Recommendations

Of course those 746 grams if food didn’t immediately go to the trash, How?
Well let me show you 3 effective ways to use leftover food

1. Re-heating: Foods that are still edible can be re heated to be eaten

again. Not only would this save you money, but it will also reduce
your food wastage. This method is used a lot in our household. And
unless your family has anything higher than 70 IQ then your
household most likely already uses this method

2. Feed to pets: If you have any food left but they are no longer edible
to you then the leftovers can be used to feed your pets. Whether
dogs or cats.

3. Fertilizer: Of course not all of us have pets and some foods are even
rotten and not edible to even pets. Then using it as fertilizer is just as
good. If you don’t have any plant then laying this to simply the soil
will make it healthy.
