Section A: Shorter writing and reflective commentary

Answer Question 1 (a) and 1(b) (compulsory).

Question 1

You have recently watched a YouTube video presented by a teenage environmental


activist. As a member of the Going Green Club at your school, you were motivated by
this video to produce a leaflet which provides advice for fellow learners about improving
their immediate environment.
(a) Write the text for your leaflet, using no more than 400 words. [15]
(b) Write a reflective commentary on your text, explaining how your linguistic choices
contribute to fulfilling the task. You should write approximately 200 words. [10]

Question 2

Recently, a person you have always held in great esteem let you down greatly.
Write a story about this incident, creating a sense of admiration and disappointment.

(a) one in favour of it and (b) the other opposing it. [25]

A travel organisation wants to raise awareness of Namibia’s unique qualities.


Write a motivational speech, creating a sense of pride, which will be delivered at a
tourism expo. Write between 600 and 900 words. [25]
