© CTU LSE 28 EBB IB Be LAW School of Law, National Chiao Tang Universit ‘August 05, 2022 ‘To Whom It May Concern, am ecstatic to recommend Jerome Fan for his undergraduate application, Thave known Jerome for over 2 years now, being one of his recommendation letters when he first applied, I am once again given the opportunity to write on his behalf. 1 am currently an Assistant Professor of Law at National Chiao Tung University (Currently National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University), but I was a practicing attorney for 7 years before embarking on a career in academia. My research mainly focuses on the intersection of Law and Technology. I say this with veracity. With the array of talented students I’ve mentored and taught, I have never ‘met a person like Jerome. From the minute I met him, my first thoughts were “Where does this person go to graduate school?”, he was only 17 years old at the time but knew a copious amount of knowledge as we probed my research on legal technology, artificial intelligence, bias, fairness, ‘human rights, and free will. My mind was further amazed when he said that he was planning on dropping out of school—which he eventually did in incredible fashion. He immediately wanted to {get involved with my research in any way, assertively inviting me for coffee to discuss possibilities. ‘After some thought and pushing from Jerome, I asked him if he would like to be my partner in starting my new technology podcast funded by the school. This had been a project on my to-do list for years but didn’t become reality until Jerome. In a week, Jerome had already compiled a full deck on what to do to launch, researched artificial intelligence issues, and learned the basics of the legal technology trade. In a month, Jerome had already set up over 5 interviewees by himself for the podcast, ranging from celebrities and business partners he worked with at the time since he had pitched the idea that we could interview far more than just professors. His resourcefulness, passion, and work ethic led me to invite him to be a VIP attendee at Taiwan’s largest Annual Al Law Conference hosted by the University to which he made just as much of a lasting impression on my colleagues as he did on me. {can say that in the 2 years I’ve known Jerome, to say that he is extraordinary would be an understatement for his grit and perseverance. While most people tend to dream of extravagant goals and actions, very few are capable of withstanding the amount of time and patience it takes to achieve those goals. Jerome has lived up to his aspirations despite being under-resourced and has succeeded in making a name for himself in academia without ever being enrolled—A feat in Taiwan that is close to impossible. I have observed that Jerome’s Intelligence, curiosity, and emotional intelligence are unlike anyone you will meet in your life, but what I think will allow him to succeed in the future is his passion and courage to embark on unconventional projects despite the disadvantages. Tam sure that Jerome will succeed in whichever institute he is in and be a fundamental contributor to any program of study he is admitted into. 1 am pleased to offer more insights into Jerome’s work and potential, at your request.
