0 Introduction
Since the pandemic hit our own home country, I have seen the children in my classes
experiencing difficulty coping with strict SOPs and Social Distancing. Children are expected
to be in their own little box at all times.
When the children are asked: 'How are you feeling today?' their automated answer is: '
I am fine, thank you.' regardless of how they are really feeling.
Therefore, I am inspired to write a book that teaches children how to name each of
their feelings and express them in a safe, fun and creative way.
According to Fred Rogers when we can talk about our feelings, they become less
overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. It is crucial to give students space and freedom
to express themselves safely especially with all the continuous changes that have been
happening since the pandemic.
Schools is not only the place for them to excel academically but also thrive
emotionally. This year, HIP committee members in our school would like to help students
become a confident English speaker by first connecting with their own feelings. Students will
be able to express themselves in a confident manner when they know their feelings are heard
and validated.
Meaningful and contextual learning help students succeed in their academic
development. The theme of ‘My feelings, My friends’ revolves around students meaningful
memories, feelings, likings and everything that is connected with themselves. As a result,
they will be able to communicate naturally in English.
English language is probably a second or third language for many of the students.
Therefore, a lot of the foreign context in their textbook adds to the challenges of having to
connect with new things and learn the language at the same time. On the other hand, this
book that focuses everything about them play an important role to break the fear of
communicating and using the language.
2.0 Rational
The rational of this program is to help children in becoming a confident
communicator by first connecting with the feelings. It is also as a response to the sudden and
continuous changes that pandemic has brought to all schools in Malaysia. We would like to
show our support to all the students that we care both for their academic as well as emotional
development.
In addition, this book is printed in colour and has more than 60 pages for the
following reasons;
 Each feeling is intentionally put in one page so that students will be able to focus
on learning only one adjective of feeling at a time. This helps them to focus and
maximize their learning and understanding of feeling.

 The illustrations are coloured so students will be able to connect better with their
own feelings and give students the idea that feelings are safe, fun and welcome.
This is the central theme of the book. We would like to encourage students to see
feelings as friends. In return, they will not only know adjective of feelings
intellectually but also experience them through colourful characters and stories in
the book.

 A picture paints a thousand words because it has colour, shape and tone.
Generally colours convey different expression and mood to a young reader.
Therefore, a coloured book that teaches about feelings is a must.
