Question 1:

Warm, crystal-clear lagoons. Cool, green foliage. Waterfalls.
Flowers. Exotic scents. Bright blue skies. Secluded beaches. Graceful
palms. Breathtaking sunsets. Soft evening breezes.”

和”Our free gift”。

Greaseless and

Living till a hundred and five, is it a dream or the reality?

Doctors believe that most people cannot live over a hundred years, but
more and more scientists believe that the aging process is controllable. In
the United States, there are 12,000 people aged over 100 years old, and the
number is increasing annually. Dr. James from Chicago stated that
theoretically, animals, including humans, can live up to six times their
normal lifespan under ideal conditions.

At present, although most of us are expected to live to around 80 years

old, some of us can exceed expectations and live more than 100 years.
There are many centenarians in places like Okinawa, Japan, Sardinia and
Italy. The oldest person in history is a French woman, Jeanne Carmen,
who lived till 122 years old. In 1875 when she was born, the global
average life expectancy was only about 43 years.

Yet, how long can human beings live? This is a question that people have
been wondering for centuries. Although the average life expectancy (the
number of years a person can live) is relatively easy to calculate, it is much
more difficult to estimate the maximum life expectancy (the maximum age
a person may reach). Previous studies set this limit at about 140 years old.
But a recent study showed that the limit of human life span is close to 150
years.

Although it is extremely hard to Truste extend the healthy lifespan of
normal mammals by 15-20%, part d of the reason is that our
understanding of aging biology is still incomplete. But nowadays,
people can prolong the lifespan of simpler creatures (such as earthworms)
by 10 times.

Since the 1860s, human life expectancy has been increasing. With the
development of science and technology, the advancement of medical
treatment and the improvement of living conditions, we can also
confidently expect that human life expectancy will raise. In fact, medical
scientists predict that the average life expectancy will grow by six seconds
every half an hour. Unfortunately, at this rate, people will not be able to
live over 150 years even in three more centuries.

2) Translation Analysis: (8%) (The questions will be given in class on

week 12)
Question 1:
Doctors believe that most people cannot live over a
hundred years, but more and more scientists believe that the aging
process is controllable.”

Question 2:
Unfortunately, at this rate, people will not be able to live over 150
years even in three more centuries.”
