Dear Colleagues,

Neonatal and Pediatric emergencies can present in the emergency department with many life-threatening
conditions, which are not uncommon problems. Nevertheless, in all instances this populations provides a
unique and significant diagnostic and treatment challenge to the clinicians, and a systematic approach is
critical to allow for rapid diagnosis and subsequent therapy in the setting of a potentially sick neonate and
infants. Neonatal and Pediatric emergencies can be associated with high mortality and morbidity.

Bali is undoubtedly one of the most captivating places to visit. The buzzing cultural islands offers a unique blend
of rich culture and its sheer natural beauty. The strategic team of Indonesian PICU NICU Update has prepared
an exciting simultaneous three days schedule on 23 – 25 June 2023 with the theme “Building Knowledge of

INTRODUCTION
In daily use, a ventilator is a breathing aid that is useful for providing respiratory support to infants and children
who need it. Mechanical ventilation is a machine with a system designed to convert the transmitted energy into
electrical and pneumatic formats (compressed gas), to assist or replace the work of the respiratory muscles.
The Workshop -organized by Pediatric Emergency and Critical Care/Indonesian Pediatric Society aims to
provide the updated concept of mechanical ventilation in critically ill infants and children from basic physiology
to clinical application. The workshops will learn to assess the effectiveness of ventilation support in critically
ill infants and children; how to examine the predictors to improve the clinical outcome of invasive mechanical
ventilation (IMV).

LEARNING OBJECTIVE
After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the mechanics of respiration and the working principle of a ventilator.
2. Understand the basic parameters of mechanical ventilation and able to perform initial settings.

Monday - Tuesday, 26 -27 June 2023 I 08.30 – 15.30 I RSUP Prof. dr. I.G.N.G Ngoerah, Bali

INTRODUCTION
In the circumstance whereas the Pediatric Cardiologists is not always around, the Neonatologists are expected
to have a very least ability to diagnose the hemodynamically significant PDA at bed side to avoid complications
to other organs. It is significant to monitor when the right time is to close hemodynamically significant PDA in
very preterm infants. Several management cases will be discussed to get a better understanding of managing
PDA. In this Course, Participants will learn whether to treat and not to treat the PDA, and when is the best time
to treat, as well as the medication choices with simulation cases.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE
At the end of course, Participants are expected to:
- Understand what PDA is and know when to treat PDA
- Understand the parameter of Echocardiographic evaluation to help to treat PDA
- Manage PDA Cases to avoid complications

OXYGEN THERAPY & HIGH FLOW NASAL CANNULA IN CRITICALLY INFANTS

& CHILDREN
Monday, 26 June 2023 I 08.00 – 16.40 I Rijasa Rooms – Grand Hyatt, Nusa Dua - Bali

INTRODUCTION
High-flow nasal cannulas (HFNCs) therapy has been used in infants with respiratory distress syndrome and
infants with bronchiolitis, and it has been shown to decrease respiratory distress and intubation rates, increase
patient comfort and ease of use compared with face masks or traditional cannulas, and shorten the length of
stay in pediatric intensive care. The Workshop -organized by Pediatric Emergency and Critical Care/Indonesian
Pediatric Society aims to elucidate the indications for HFNC therapy in children of all ages and diagnoses, and
to evaluate the efficacy and risk factors for failure of HFNC therapy in children with acute respiratory distress
with hypoxia in a pediatric intensive care unit.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE
After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the physiology of ventilation oxygenation in children.
2. Understand the basic concept of oxygen therapy.
3. Understand the application of oxygen therapy devices (high flow and low flow) in pediatric patients
4. Understand the concept of implementing high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) in pediatric patients in general and
specifically for respiratory failure.
5. Understand and perform the installation of HFNC.
6. Understand and monitor the use of HFNC.

NON-INVASIVE VENTILATION IN CRITICALLY INFANTS & CHILDREN

Tuesday, 27 June 2023 I 08.00 – 16.30 I Rijasa Rooms – Grand Hyatt, Nusa Dua - Bali

INTRODUCTION
Non-invasive ventilation has been used in the management of children with acute respiratory failure for
decades, however it is only in the last few years that the benefits in children had been recognized and accepted.
Technical difficulties with noninvasive ventilation in children such as poor mask fitting, inadequate ventilation
because of leaks, and eye irritation and nasal dryness due to high flow have been recognized and are being
addressed to varying degrees. Recent attention to mask, helmet and strapping device designs, and proper
positioning have improved patient compliance and acceptance. However even with these modifications, the
use of noninvasive ventilation is limited in patients with congenital facial anomalies. The Workshop -organized
by Pediatric Emergency and Critical Care/Indonesian Pediatric Society will discuss the role of noninvasive
ventilation in infants and children as the respiratory support without airway invasion. The participant will learn
specific non-invasive technique while receiving ventilatory support.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE
After attending this Workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the basic principles of using non-invasive ventilation.
2. Understand the indications and contraindications for the use of non-invasive ventilation according to the
patient’s needs.
3. Implement the selection of equipment including the required interface according to patient needs.
4. Select the mode of non-invasive ventilation, including the initial setting of non-invasive ventilation.
5. Adjust and monitor patient using non-invasive ventilation.lications
