Differentiate HAZARD, RISK, and DISASTER.
Hazards are origins of disaster. A hazard is a
natural process or phenomenon that may pose
negative impacts on the economy, society and
ecology, including both natural factors and
human factors that are associated with the
natural ones.
Disaster are direct and indirect results of
hazards. Disaster impacts include human
losses, resources and environmental
destruction, ecological changes, disruption of
social order and threats to the normal
functioning of lifelines and production lines.

Infer the saying, “An ounce of prevention is
better than a pound of cure” and relate this to
the phrase “Disaster Risk Reduction”.
Many things in life require careful thought and
preparation. Sometimes we need to
be cautious and take precautions. Focusing on
what matters to individuals to promote better
safety and well-being and stopping them from
being harmed. It can save you more trouble in
the end. Even with all the advanced technology
available today, it's far more effective to prevent
damage than try to repair it.

Risk is the probability of disaster loss in the

future period of time in a region, or the future
disaster. Essentially, risk is the probability of
the occurrence of a future hazardous events
and impacts.

In this illustration, give ways on how to reduce disaster risk?

Disaster risk reduction is the concept and practice of reducing disaster risks through
systematic efforts to analyse and reduce the causal factors of disasters. Before
choosing for a house location, safety of the people living in it must be prioritized. As
shown in the illustration, the house is below the cliff. If natural disaster occurs it can
cause great damage or loss of life. Cliffs are dangerous because of their height and
steepness and may cause death or accidents. Homeowners should be advise to
relocate due to a risky place. The government should restrict people from building a
house or even tents where landslides or accidents may happen.
