HOW TO INSTALL AND SET UP A SAFE EXAM

BROWSER (SEB) ON A STUDENT’S PERSONAL

LAPTOP
1. PURPOSE

The purpose of this document is to list the procedure to install and set up the Safe
Exam Browser on a student’s laptop. The installation will allow students to take a
SEB exam administered from Cestar College. The same instructions can be used to
install SEB on a desktop.
PROCEDURE
2. PROCEDURE – INSTALLATION/CONFIGURATION ON WINDOWS

2.1 Download the Safe Client Settings from

3.1 Create a new folder called “SafeExam” in c:\ProgramData\. ProgramData is a hidden

folder, so you have to open the “File Explorer” then click on “This PC”, select “Local Disk
(c:)”, click on “View” in the menu bar, then check the box “Hidden items”. Go to
“ProgramData”, then create a new folder called “SafeExam”.

 5 Unzip the file

3.2 Copy the “SafeClientSettings.seb” from downloads to c:\ProgramData\SafeExam\ and run

it.

 9 Double click to run SebClientSettings

3.3 Download the Safe Exam Browser from https://safeexambrowser.org/ (version 3. X)

3.4 Go to the Downloads folder, then double click on “Seb_3.3.x_SetupBundle” to run the
SafeExamBrowserInstaller.exe

3.5 Restart your laptop

Click to restart

3.6 Click on “start – window icon” and then type Safe Exam Browser to open the window.

Double Click to Run

Type: Safe Exam Browser

 When you see this logon screen
it means you installed SEB
successfully. You can then open
from this browswer every time
you need to access your quiz or
exam. Please quit the application
after use by clicking on the
power button at the lower right
of the SEB window.

Warning for  users

If you close your laptop while working in  SEB, your laptop may lock on a red
screen.
To unlock, forcibly shut down your laptop by holding the power button down a
little longer. When you restart, choose  not  to restart applications.

 4. PROCEDURE – INSTALLATION/CONFIGURATION ON MAC

You must visit the IT Help Desk on campus to set up the SEB client if you have a
MacBook Air or MacBook Pro.

4.1 Download the Safe Exam Browser for MAC from https://safeexambrowser.org/ (the latest
version stable available)

Double Click to download

4.2 Open “Finder” then click on the downloads folder

Double Click to Install

4.3 Download the Safe Exam Client Settings “SebClientSettings.seb” from

https://moodle.cestarcollege.com/moodle/local/staticpage/view.php?page=IT_Resources
