Ans: Due to the lack of plain land, farmers have cut steps or terraces along the slopes. On
these steps they grow rice, maize, barley and potatoes. Such farming is called terrace
farming.
Q2. What led the Europeans to find a sea route to the east?
Ans: Trade with Asia was very important for the Europeans because they needed cloth and
spices. The Arab traders controlled the land route and resisted the presence of Europeans.
So to keep trading the Europeans had to find a sea route to the east.
