Regrets are always personal (only use I or we)

Subj. + should (n’t) have + ppv.

example:

I went out with my friends and spent all my money on drinks.

“I shouldn’t have spent all my money on drinks.”

“I shouldn’t have gone out with my friends.”

“I should have stayed at home.”

3rd conditional =hypothetical results for past actions

2nd conditional = hypothetical situations that you wish could happen in the present

3rd conditional: If + PAST PERFEECT + could’ve/would’ve

If I had stayed home, I could have watched my favorite series/I wouldn’t have spent all my money

If I hadn’t spent all my money on drinks, I could’ve saved that money for another occasion./ I
would’ve been able to buy me a new pair of shoes.

Could’ve refers to an alternative action. (never use couldn’t have)

would’ve/wouldn’t have = refers to a fact about the actions: a better result
