CSEC PHYSICS MANUAL ‘SIMPLE PENDULUM 2 Aim: To determine the length of pendulum that will oscillate once per second Apparatus/Materials: Retort stand and clamp, metre rule, bob, thread, wooden blocks and stopwatch Procedure: Please think about all precautions that should be taken before starting the measurement, Also construct a suitable table in which to record the experimental data. 1. Tie a length of the thread to the bob. Place the free end of the thread between the wooden clamp and stand. Adjust the length of pendulum to measure exactly 0.40 m. Displace the pendulum by a small amplitude and use the stop watch to measure the time for twenty (20) oscillations. Record your results in the table. 5. Repeat the procedure from step 4 to obtain a second value. Record the result. 6. Record also the average of the two readings and the Period (T/s) 7.
