CIRCLE
Circle
A circle is a two-dimensional figure with no sides.

Infinite lines of symmetry

Radius, circumference (perimeter) , diameter, arc (it is any portion of the circumference), chord
Parts of a
Circle
1. Radius- line segment from the center
to the circle. Diameter is two times the
radius
2. Sector- a “pizza” slice or a portion of
the circumference bounded by two radii
3. Chord-a line between two points on a
circle (eg diameter)
4. Segment- the cut formed by a chord
(minor/major sectors)
5. Arc- any portion of the circumference
Find the Circumference of a Circle
The circumference of a circle is the perimeter. It is the distance around the entire
edge of the circle.

Formula for circumference = 2 r where r is the radius and pi is a mathematical

constant whose value is usually given

Formula for Area = r 2

Find the Circumference of a Circle (given radius)
For example: Find the circumference of the circle.

C =2 r

C=2(3.14)*3.2

C= 20.1cm
Find the Circumference of a Circle
Try: The radius of a circle is 15m. Find the circumference.
Find the Circumference of a Circle (given the diameter)

Try: The diameter of a circle is 15cm. Find the circumference.

Find the Radius of a Circle (given the circumference)

The circumference of a circle is 50cm. Find its radius, in cm.

Find the Area of a circle

Try: The radius of a circle is 3.2 cm. Find the area.

Formula for area of a circle:

A=

Area of circle = 3.14x3.2x3.2=

3.14x10.24=

Area of circle= 32.2cm2

Find the Area of a Circle
Try: The radius of a circle is 15cm. Find the area. Pi 3.14
Find the Circumference of a Circle (given the area)

The area of a circle is 25π cm². What is the circumference, in centimeters?

Express your answer in terms of \piπ.

Area of Sector

Find the area of the sector that is outlined with the bold line.
(Take π = 3.14 and round your answer to one decimal place,
if necessary).

Area of Sector = πr2
= 3.14× (11cm)2)

= 316.49cm2
If the area of the sector is
given to be 16cm^2, what is
the area of the circle
If the area of the sector is
given to be 16cm^2, what is
the area of the circle
If the circumference of the following circle is 54 cm, what is
the area of the sector?
