ABSTRACT

Technological innovations have contributed significantly on all sectors of economy of which

electrical energy distribution based on industrial, domestic purposes is a notable one. Hence,

the aim of this project is to utilize an Arduino UNO microprocessor controller to control and

regulate the charging of the battery implemented such that the input AC power from the

wind-solar hybrid system is been controlled which is in turn converted into DC form through an

inverter and fed to the load. The battery is charged through through a Max Power Point

Tracking (MTTP) controller which gives more efficient output of about 98% and can

implement a buck DC-to-DC converter to effectively match the charge voltage and peak current .

The Arduino UNO microprocessor uses ATmega328p which compares the data from the

voltage dividers and current sensor at the input and output for both wind and solar circuits.

The microcontroller gives a frequency of 62.5khz to the wind circuit and 31.25khz to the solar

circuit to control the switching states and different voltage and current values were taken during

testing. However, the efficiency of the hybrid system were calculated and the analysis shows

that solar system was 97.1% efficient at input current of 1.58A, 18V and output current of

2A, 13.8V while wind system was 93.6% efficient at input current of 1.31A, 21V and output

current of 2.5A, 13.8V. It implies that solar system was much efficient but nevertheless,

wind-solar hybrid system could be employed to mitigate frequent interrupted power system

especially for domestic and industrial purposes.
