Maintenance fluid

<10kg = wt x 100

>10kg <20kg = [(wt-10) x50] +1000

>20kg =[(wt-20) x20] +1500

TF =MF+DF
DF= weight xseverity
For example

Calculate the amount of fluid for patient weighing 16kg

>10kg <20kg = [(wt-10) x50] +1000

[(16-10) x50] +1000
= 1300ml

For 24 hours
1300/24 = 54.16 ml

Drops per minute

Drop factor- 3 (gtts/min)
54.16/3 = 18 gtts/min

Deficit Fluid
<2yo >2yo
Mild 5% (50) 3% (30)
Moderate 10% (100) 6% (60)
Severe 15% (150) 9% (90)

Weight estimation
1-5yo= (age x2) +8

( Age x 7 )−5
6-12yo=

Calculate TF for the following

3 yo 20kg Mild DHN

9 months 8kg Moderate DHN
12 yo 41kg Mild DHN

7yo 35kg Moderate DHN

7mos 9kg Severe DHN
Drug calculations

Paracetamol

13(15) x 5ml/250 = 3.9ml

Actual dose = 250/5 (8ml)

Wt
= 30m/k/d
