Introduction
It has been seen that today’s generation specially lack behind when it comes to fitness and
sports. The reasons are unknown and many of us ponder why this is happening. Our survey
was aimed in identifying the reasons behind this lack of fitness among students and to
establish whether there is a relation between the academic performance of a student and the
level of participation they have in sports and extracurricular activities. For our analysis we
took samples of KSOM students via questionnaire asking them questions regarding the level
of participation they have in sports and their academic performance. Basing on the ratings we
analysed the data fter that we sorted the data and applied SPSS to come up with a solution.
Background
The main purpose of this research project was to examine the hypotheses whether there is any
relation between the level of participation of students in sports and extracurricular activities
and their academic performance. A sample of 100 respondents were taken for this survey
through Google forms across KSOM. The respondents were asked to rate their participation
in sports and the level of satisfaction they have by their level of academic result on a Likert
scale of 10. The sample were between the age range of 18 to 24, consisting mainly of male
respondents. Majority of them were MBA 1st year students across 4 sections in KSOM. We
calculated their BMI by the given weight and height and tested our null hypothesis in SPSS
on the basis of 4 parameters; Academic Performance, Engagement in Sports Activities,
Engagement in Extracurricular activities and Fitness level. We primarily used Primary data
obtained for our survey sheet. The students rated their performance on the basis of the SGPA
they obtained in the previous semester. We asked them about both indoor and outdoor
activities they liked to play and the level of participation they have in these sports. We asked
them about any chronic disease they are suffering from, and what are they taking to overcome
these diseases. The respondents gave their answer which was later transformed in a form of 1
to 10 scale. We primarily used cluster analysis, correlation and Regression in SPSS.

This projects revolves around KSOM MBA students of batch 2018-20, where we are
examining the attitude of these students towards extracurricular activities relating to their
academic performances. The main purpose of doing this project is to find out the reasons
behind the attitude of these students. We hypothetically assume some or the other things to be
the reasons for whatever attitude students show related to their performance and participation,
but we here have aimed to get the concrete reasons behind such attitudes.
For this project we have taken samples of 100 MBA students out of 280-290 students. On
demographic segment the age group of respondents revolves around 23 to 26 of age and some
of them are outliner that is 22, 28 and so on. The response were both male and female where
number of males were around 51 and number of females were 49.
Many of the respondents have shown interest in sports but are unsatisfied with their academic
performance, while many are satisfied. Many also have showed their interest over
engagement in academic activities but are unsatisfied with their performance whereas many
are satisfied with their academic performance with high engagement in extracurricular
activities, while many don’t get engaged in both sports activities and academic activities and
still are unsatisfied with their academic performance whereas some are satisfied with no
engagement in extracurricular activities.
Hence here our project plays an important role to find out what is actually happening, what is
the relation between academic performance and engagement in sports activities and academic
activities and how fit these students are to be better off in both the parameters that is
engagement in sports activities, engagement in academic activities and academic
performance.
Hypothesis
Hypotheses: To find relation between participation in extracurricular activities and academic
performance.
Null Hypothesis (H0): There is no relation between participation in extracurricular activities
and academic performance.
Alternative Hypothesis (H1): There is relation between participation in extracurricular
activities and academic performance.

FIELD WORK
 Contacts with the respondents were made where respondents are only form KIIT
School of Management. Sample comprised of 100 respondents of gender male,
female and other.
 According to the objective the questionnaire were made in form of google forms
which comprised of:

 Name
 Interest in indoor and outdoor sports
 Choice of extracurricular activities both sports and academic wise
 Sources of entertainment during free hours
 Rating of academic performance
 Level of satisfaction in academic performance
 Level of participation in sports and academic activities
 Rating of fitness level
 Disease (if any)
 Measures to stay fit.

 The data were collected from the google forms and extracted to excel sheet.
Observation was done.

above data were recorded and turned in the completed forms for processing.

Data Preparation

The main source of the analysis of the data is questionnaire. Questionnaire consists of
questions related to student’s student participation in sports, student participation in
events(club activities, intercollege participation) and their performance in studies and we
have given them to rate themselves on a scale of 1 to 10. Basing on their ratings we have
analysed the data in SPSS.
Limitation of the Study
The research will have the following limitations:
 The research data depends upon the respondents how they have rated themselves on
various attributes on a scale of 1 to 10.
 As we have done the survey through online mode so the accuracy of data depends
upon the mood of the respondents.
 Since we have taken sample size of 100 so it might not be reflection of entire
population.
Opinions of respondents have been taken as a sense of truth which may not be correct

After correlation analysis we found that at 95% significance level all factors
are positively correlated with performance.

The total efficiency of the model is found to be 15.2 % depending upon respondent error.
