The original Y2K, much like its resurgent counterpart, emerged as a bit of a pendulum
swing. Similar to the way the 2008 recession led to minimalism in the 2010s—and, in
counter-response, 2020s burgeoning maximalism—a recession in the early 1990s was
all about simplicity.

Y2K was popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but it has made a tremendous
resurgence in the modern era. Our shoot concentrates on the Y2K style tribe, the
editorials revolve around the theme of euphoria which is full of teenage pomp, lots of
style inspiration with iconic makeup, and outstanding outfits. The dramatic components
used in the ensembles include shimmer tops, tie-knots, cut-out dresses, denim corsets,
chunky boots, dramatic makeup and haircuts, and bright LED lights.

the revival of Y2K fashion seems to be playing out in ways both explicitly referential and
more evocative.
