Therefore target mean strength = 20 + 1.65 X 4 = 26.6 N/mm? 4.0 APPROXIMATE AIR CONTENT: From table 3, 1S:10262 :2019 the approximate amount of entrapped air to be expected in normal (non air entrained) concrete is 1.0 percent for 20 mm nominal maximum size of aggregate. 5.0 SELECTION OF WATER - CEMENT RATIO, As per Table 5 of 1S:456, maximum water — cement r 0.50 Based on experience, adopt water-cement ratio as 0.49 0.49< 0.50, Hence OK 6.0 SELECTION OF WATER CONTENT From table 4 of IS 10262:2019, maximum water content = 186 kg Estimated water content for 50-75 mm slump = 186+ (9/100X186) Liter = 202.74 kg say 203 kg, 7.0 CALCULATION OF CEMENT CONTENT: Water-cement ratio = 0.49 Cement Content = 203/0.49 = 414 kg/m? As per IS: 456, the minimum cement content for moderate (RCC) condition = 300 kg/m? 414>300 kg/m’, Hence O.K. 8.0 PROPORTION OF VOLUME COARSE AGGREGATE AND FINE AGGREGATE CONTENT: From Table 5 of IS 10262:2019, Volume of coarse aggregate corresponding to 20 mm size aggregate and fine aggregate (Zone-II) for water ~cement ratio 0.50 = 0.62, In the present case water ~ cement ratio is 0.49; therefore, volume of coarse aggregate is required to be increased to decrease the fine aggregate content. As the water-cement ratio is lower by 0.01, the proportion of volume of coarse aggregate is increased by 0.002 (at the rate +/- 0.01 for every +/- 0.05 change in water cement ratio). Therefore, corrected proportion of volume of coarse aggregate for the water-cement ratio of 0.49 ~ 0,62 +0.002 = 0.522 say 0.62 Volume of fine aggregate content = 1- 0.62 = 0.38 Page-3 8.01Mix ales ions ‘The mix calculations per unit volume of concrete shall be as follows: a.) | Volume of concrete =|Im b,) | Volume of entrapped =| 0.010m° wet concrete c.) | Volume of cement =| 414 I 0.138m° 2.98 1000 Volume of water 203 1 d) 0.203 m> 1.00 1000 ¢) | Volume ofall in aggregate | = | [I- (0.010+ 0.138 +0.203) = 0.649 m* = | 0.649 x 0.62 x 2.63 x 1000 = 1058 kg. f,) | Mass of coarse aggregate ‘ ‘Mass of fine aggregate = | 0.649 x 0.38 x 2.55x 1000 = 628 kg 8) 9.0Mix proportions Calculations (Trial No-1) Trial Water, Kg/m> | Cement, ke/m? | Fine Aggregate, kg/m® | Coarse Ageregate,ke/m* 203 414 8 1058 0.49 1 5 131 235 Similarly TrialII&III carried out:- ‘Trial-I Water, Kg/m | Cement, kg/m | Fine Aggregate, kg/m’ | Coarse Aggregate, kg/m 183.3 374 659 1110 0.49 1 1.76 2.96 Trial-tt ‘Water, Kym? | Cement, kg/m’ | Fine Aggregate, kg/m°_| Coarse Aggregate,kg/m? 164.2 335 90 7162 0.49 H 205 346 Page-4 10.0 Compressive strength: Verified compressive strength in respect of the designs mentioned in this report is given below for ready reference:~ Compressive strength, N/mm? If otherwise, when computing the requirement of mixing water, allowance shall be made for the free (surface) moisture contributed by the fine aggregate and coarse aggregates. On the other hand, if the aggregates are dry, the amount of mixing water should be increased by an amount equal to the moisture likely to be absorbed by the aggregates. Necessary adjustments are also required to be made in mass of aggregates.
