(a) Air Speed Indicator: It shows the speed at which the aircraft is moving through the
air. It registers the speed of the air tracking the aircraft from the reading if the
dynamic pressure registered by the pitot head

(b) Compass: In order to ensure correct navigation the aircraft is provided with a
compass which gives continuous indication of the aircrafts heading.

(c) Altimeter: It indicates the altitude of the aircraft at all times, it registers height about
any datum like ground or sea level in terms of Feet or Meters.

(d) RCDI: It shows the vertical speed of the aircraft in terms of thousands of feet or
meters per minute. It works by the pressure tapped from and in conjunction with ASI
and Altimeter.

Ans: Meteorology is the study of weather processes in the atmosphere. Since the atmosphere is
the medium through which an aircraft is flown, it is essential for pilot to know this subject to
enable him to fly the aircraft efficiently, economically and safely.
Meteorology is useful for aviation in the following ways:
(a) It enables a proper selection of the site for an airfield and correct orientation of runways.
(b) It helps engineers to design aircraft suitably by giving them data of pressure, wind,
temperature etc.
