I would like to tell you about Great Depression in the USA.

It happened in
1929 and lasted till 1939. This time is the toughest time in nearly whole American
history.

The Great Depression was a dramatic period for all American citizens. It
caused unemployment, economy fall, hunger, bank failures. Too many people lost
their jobs and houses. Although, some of workers managed to save their jobs, they
were barely making enough money to support themselves and their families.

The main reason why this event took place in U.S. history was a fall of stock
market. Wall Street crashed because of the long-term speculation, during which
millions of people were willing to invest their money on stocks or would love to
borrow some to buy stocks. The value of currency declined; food prices went
extremely up. The result of stock market collapse was a big wave of panic around
the country, the lives of people were turned upside down. All of these pushed
prices to unsustainable levels. To survive people had to give up many facilities.
Females had to plant gardens, buy canning food for their family. Some of families
even were buying used bread. If there was a need to fix shoes, people were buying
cardboards and cotton.

By 1932 half of all banks in America had failed and almost one quarter of
whole population was unemployed. That year Franklin D. Roosevelt won an
overwhelming victory in the presidential election. He promised to create a better
country, with stable economy. The main goal of him was to create federal
government programs to end Great Depression. In 100 days, he created 42 new
agencies which were giving jobs to poor citizens. Programs were made to make
more job opportunities and insurances. Moreover, these programs helped economy
to become more stable and prevent the further drop. Roosevelt helped his own
country to survive, he saved people and made economy steady.
