    When you read a passage you should be looking for the following elements:

    Term Definition
    Title Name of a piece of writing
    Author Creator of a piece of writing, speech, or image
    Genre Type or category of writing
    Subject A single word or phrase indicating the topic
    Claim What the author is saying about the subject
    Support Evidence for claim
    Rhetorical Device Techniques authors use to persuade the reader to accept their claim

    Stem sentence to begin all analysis writing:

    In his/her (date) (genre), (title), about (subject), (author) uses (rhetorical device) to support his/her view
    that (claim).
