Modern and historical paintings, sculptures, installations, and other visual culture from native
or indigenous Africans and the African continent are referred to as African art.

Several African societies value ancestors as mediators between the living, the gods, and the
supreme creator, and art is considered as a method to communicate with these ancestor
spirits. Art may also be used to portray gods and is appreciated for its utility.

For many ages, art has been an element of human civilization. It has been used to convey
emotions, transmit ideas, and pass down information from one generation to the next.

Art is significant in our cultural and social life because it serves as a vehicle for us to express
our feelings and thoughts. It is also useful for learning, teaching, and communicating. Art is
important in recording history, and many pieces of art help us create a picture (literally) of
what life was like in former generations.

Art is also very significant as a cultural marker all over the world. According to studies, art
may have an impact on one's core sense of self.

Example;
Folk arts, are culturally distinct and describe the history and rich traditions of a place.
Painting, architecture, sculpture, music, literature, and many other great arts can be seen of as
repositories of a society's collective memory.
