Murderers should get death sentences.

First Speaker:

Good morning all the adjudicators….

Good morning moderator …..

Good morning time keeper….

Good morning all my teachers…

Good morning my beloved participants from negative team

Good morning all the participants …

Thank you very much for the time that given to me. Today I would like to introduce
our team from Saint Mathilda Vocational high school. I ’m Maria N. Della Santya
as the first speaker from affirmative team, I would like to introduce my team’s split
for today’s motion. I am as the first speaker from the affirmative team would like to
explain some reason why the murders should get death sentences: Anastasia Susantri
Sule as the 2nd speaker will deliver about the positive impact of death penalty, and
Yolanda O. Rasi as the third speaker will give conclusion and give some example and
data for strengthening our argument.

Ladies and gentlemen…

First of all let us praise to our almighty God because of his blessing we can gather
here in order to take part in the English Debate Competition to commemorate youth
pledge day. .
Before I deliver my argument (argiument) I will give the definition of the motion.

First murderers. Murder is the crime of unlawfully ( enlaufely) killing a person

especially with malice (males) aforethought (affortath) . Murders are usually

motivated by various motives, such as politics, jealousy,(jelesi) revenge, (rifens) self-

defense, (self difens) and so on.. Second death sentence. Death sentence is

execution (eksekiusen ) of an offender (efender) sentenced to death after conviction

(kenfiksen) by a court (kort) of law of a criminal offense. (ofens)

Ladies and gentlemen….

I’m Maria N. Della Santya from the affirmative team. I completely agree with
Murderers should get death sentences.

Ladies and gentlemen…

Since 1977, one year after the US Supreme Court reaffirmed the constitutionality of
the death penalty, more than 1,480 people have been executed, primarily by means of
lethal injection. Most death penalty cases involve the execution of murderers although
capital punishment can also be applied for treason, espionage, and other crimes.
Proponents of the death penalty say it is an important tool for preserving law and
order, deters crime, and costs less than life imprisonment. They argue that retribution
or “an eye for an eye” honors the victim, helps console grieving families, and ensures
that the perpetrators of heinous crimes never have an opportunity to cause future.
Death penalty to justify capital punishment it is one of the most effective deterrents
for would-be criminals. They argue the death penalty is needed to prevent other
members of society from committing.
Ladies and gentlemen…

According to Article 340 of the Criminal Code said that

another person's life, is threatened with premeditated murder, with the death penalty

or imprisonment for life or for a certain period of time, a maximum of 20 years.

Based on the article above Now I will give you some reason why the murders should

get death sentences:

1. Death penalty should applied because an increase in quality and quantity crime

from time to time, then the increasingly violent criminals need given shock therapy

(shock therapy), in the form of death penalty, especially for criminals certain things

that can't be done anymore

2. Death sentence, is a harsh sentence required for criminals who have committed the

worst crimes, that the sentence deters crime, and the example of the US Supreme

Court has upheld the death penalty as constitutional.

3. Hikmahanto said there is implementation of the death penalty in Indonesia,

because the Constitution has decided that the death penalty is not against the

Indonesian Constitution, the Indonesian people's view of the death penalty is clear.

Therefore, the government must remain consistent and not slack off in carrying out

the death penalty considering that there are a number of death row inmates who are

still waiting.

In this case "The government must not be discriminatory or inconsistent in carrying

out the death penalty by looking at the nationality of the death row inmate.

4. Wirjono Prodjodikoro, in his book Principles of Criminal Law in Indonesia

put forward the purpose of dropping and carry out the death penalty so that people

are afraid commit cruel acts will result in them being sentenced to death
5. The death penalty is more certain and specific than imprisonment, because

imprisonment is often accompanied by the possibility of the convict running away,

or receiving a pardon or because of an acquittal. The death penalty has the role of

ensuring that the criminal will not move again and the community will not be

disturbed anymore and there is no need to be afraid of the criminal because his body

has been buried and the criminal will no longer be able to do evil deeds, as well as

other people will be afraid. to commit evil acts which are punishable by the death

penalty.

6. The death penalty will create a deterrent effect on others who have committed

and will commit crimes, and can maintain the authority of the government and law

enforcement.

Ladies and gentlemen….

Based on the arguments I have said before, so I am Maria N.Della Santya as
the second speaker from affirmative team remain agree that murderer
should get death sentences. Thank you.

Second speaker

Thank you very much for the time that given to me, I am Maria Susantri Sule as
the second speaker from affirmative team, I will explain more about the good
impact of death sentence..

Ladies and gentlemen…before I explain more about the good impact of death
sentence, firstly I will show you a reach was taken said that, an estimated
2,000,000 people in the United States have been victims of crimes, from assault to
murder. With insufficient laws to address this problem or the lack of teeth in these
laws, criminals become careless and bolder to commit heinous crimes because of
the leniency in punishments and loop holes in the justice system. For these reason
above , there is a need for death penalty.

Ladies and gentlemen…

Now I will explain the the advantages of the death sentences according to some
expert

Charles Stimson, JD, Acting Chief of Staff and Senior Legal Fellow of the
Heritage Foundation, in Dec. 20, 2019 article, “The Death penalty Is
Appropriate,” available at heritage., stated: “ the death penalty serves three
legitimate penological objectives there are: general deterrence, specific deterrence,
and retribution.

The first, general deterrence,

The first, general deterrence, is the message that gets sent to people who are
thinking about committing heinous crimes that they shouldn’t do it or else
they might end up being sentenced to death.

The second, specific deterrence,

Specific deterrence,is specific to the defendant. It simply means that the

person who is subjected to the death penalty won’t be alive to kill other
people.

The third penological goal, retribution,

Penological goal, retribution, is an expression of society’s right to make a

moral judgment by imposing a punishment on a wrongdoer befitting the crime
he has committed. Twenty-nine states, and the people’s representatives in
Congress have spoken loudly; the death penalty should be available for the
worst of the worst.”

Ladies and gentlemen…

Jenna Ellis Reeves, JD, attorney, in a July 30, 2019 article, “The Moral Case
for the Death Penalty,” available at washingtonexaminer.com, stated:

“Justice is required from a legitimate society that acts ethically. Government

has a justice system for a reason: to promote good and restrain evil. A
legitimate society protects and preserves individual rights, and when one
person substantially and harmfully infringes on another’s rights, government
has legitimate authority to designate that conduct as criminal and seek to
prevent it and punish it where it does occur. Our criminal justice system is
designed for this purpose. It also includes the important element of restitution
or victim compensation.Based on the statement above, so I myself I support
that murder should get death sentence.

Ladies and gentlemen…

There are some advantages according to Jenna Ellis Reeves, JD, attorney

1.  To avoid violent crimes in society, a strong deterrent is required. The goal of a
law is to provide a deterrent against crime.  This deterrent could be capital
punishment which is used in cases of rarity and sets an example that if ever such acts
are repeated the consequences would be dire. This would also help prevent the crime
from happening in the first place.

2. There are cases of horrific crimes which are beyond the point of rehabilitation. For
such cases, capital punishment not only creates a deserved punishment equivalent to
the crime committed but also provides safety for the rest of society. It also prevents
the commission of such crimes in the distant future.

3. Death penalty eliminates the chance of escape for the consequences of a

criminal’s actions. It eliminates the possibility of an illegal escape.

Ladies and gentleman…

Based on my argument I have said before, I am myself as the second

speaker from positive team really agree that murders should get the
death sentence. Thank you.

Third speaker

Ladies and gentlemen….

The death penalty is a punishment for crimes committed against the rights of

life, freedom and safety of the victim. such as murder, committed by

perpetrators who do not value life. Because they violated the lives of others, it

is only fair that they are brought to justice and the crimes they deserve. If the

government does not implement the death penalty it means the government

allows the next killer to commit the same crime, even the murder cases will

increase

Ladies and gentlemen…

As reported by time magazine, an estimated 2,000,000 people in the United States

have been victims of crimes, from assault to murder. With insufficient laws to
address this problem or the lack of teeth in these laws, criminals become careless
and bolder to commit heinous crimes because of the leniency in punishments and
loop holes in the justice system. For these reason, I am myself I concluded that
there is a need for death penalty or death sentence for decreasing the crime.

Now, I will show you the positive impact of death sentences.

 It deters criminals from committing serious crimes. Common sense tells us

that the most frightening thing for a human being is to lose their life; therefore,
the death penalty is the best deterrent when it comes to discouraging people
from carrying out the worst crimes.
 It is quick, painless, and humane. Methods of execution have gradually
become more humane over the years, so the argument that the death penalty is
cruel and unusual is not valid.
 The legal system constantly evolves to maximize justice. That the legal
system may make a wrong decision doesn’t mean that the death penalty is
wrong. Every effort is made in the United States to give death row prisoners
opportunities to challenge the court's decisions. It appeases the victims or
victims' families. The death penalty can provide families of victims with
some closure, which may help them to deal with their suffering.
 Without the death penalty, some criminals would continue to commit
crimes. It deters prisoners who are already serving life sentences in jail from
committing more serious offenses.
 It is a cost-effective solution. The idea put forward by abolitionists that it
costs more to execute someone than imprison them for life is simply not true,
and there is plenty of evidence to show this.
 Retribution is not the same as revenge. Retribution is a necessary part of the
punishment process—without it, the friends and family of the victims, as well
as the public in general, would not feel that justice had been served.
 the death penalty is needed as retribution argue that “an eye for an eye” is
appropriate, that the punishment should match the crime, and that the penalty
is needed as a moral balance to the wrong done by the criminal.
 the death penalty is needed to bring about closure and solace to victims’
families argue that the finality of the death penalty is needed for families to
move on and not live in fear of the criminal getting out of prison.
 the death penalty is a moral punishment state that “an eye for an eye” is
justified to promote a good and just society to shuns evil.

Ladies and gentlemen….

Based on the arguments I have said before, so I am Yolanda Oktavia Rasi as
the third speaker from affirmative team remain agree that murderer should
get death sentences. Thank you.
