ABSTRACT

The study involves the redevelopment of D’ Family Park which incorporates

environmental education with the existing recreational practices and demands of users in

the park.

Parks provide natural environment for recreation, appreciation of nature, and other

developmental activities. However, D’ Family Park’s natural environment and its

resources are currently being threatened due to irresponsible park use and the need for

spaces for structural developments. There is also a lack of facilities and amenities catering

to the current demands of user activities, especially in promoting environmental awareness.

It proves alarming for the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) and Barangay

Talamban due to the potential damage happening to the park, as a source of water and as a

site for recreation, respectively. Having observed the current predicaments of D’ Family

Park’s resources and facilities, and the growing demand of park users leaning towards

educational and ecological tours, the researcher sought the opportunity to redevelop the

park, incorporating environmental education to the current recreational demands of the

park users. With this, the researcher found the initiative to provide architectural solutions

to redevelop the outdated park.

The redeveloped D’ Family Park is seen to be a role model in environmental

education especially in Cebu, leading to a more environmentally responsible community

and better treatment of parks and green spaces in the developing country of the Philippines.
