Nowadays, the term Fast Fashion is more usual to hear, starting from the fact that most of the

fashion
industries elaborate seasonal clothing to satisfy all its clients needs a fast pace. Big companies like Zara,
H&M, Forever 21, Shein, Pretty Little Thing are the leaders in this segment, but there are more
concerning facts just like their workers living in poor conditions, labor exploitation and the
environmental pollution that they produce in factories. Fashion production makes up 10% of
humanity’s carbon emissions, dries up water sources, and pollutes rivers and streams. What’s more,
85% of all textiles go to the dump each year. (UNECE, 2018) and washing some types of clothes sends
significant amount of microplastics into the ocean.

Some companies have their operations in India, China, Taiwan and they also operate
in countries like Bangladesh where the legal age of employments is just 14. (Global
People Strategist, 2021). Since these people don’t have covered their basic needs, they
start working at a young age. In 2021, a report from the NGO Public Eye revealed
Shein’s workers putting off in as many as 75 hours a week, receiving only one day off
per month, and being paid per item of clothing. The more clothing their employees
produce, the more they get paid.
